Anyone else unaffected by caffeine?

I am so jealous of people who can have a cup of coffee and be awake. My entire life, caffeine has had no effect on me. It isn’t that I am too used to it, either, as I rarely have it.

I can drink several espressos and go to sleep. I can take Vivarin and go to sleep. I like coffee for the taste, but it doesn’t “work” for me.

Am I the only freak?

Coffee no longer perks me up, but I wouldn’t want to be around me if I DON’T get it. But it’s tolerance, I’m sure. Spending 12-14 hours a day writing code for several years, you develop a bit of a coffee habit. And it’s to the point now where I need it just to avoid having my head explode. But I can drink a few espressos and go right to sleep as well.

I’ve never drank coffee, always hated the taste.
As for tea, I drink a lot of it especially in the summer.
Theres no discrenable wise-awake effect, more of a go to the bathroom effect.

Well, Opal, you have company in freakdom. I’ve never been effected by caffeine and that really sucks. If my butt is dragging in the morning nothing, short of an electric cattle prod, is going to get me going. In college I tried Vivarin to do all-nighters–then I’d wake up the next morning with an impresion of the keyboard on my face (they take forever to go away, too.)

wide awake
drinking too much tea makes you type too fast and misspell words…

I once took enough Vivarin to make me shaky as hell, but I was still sleepy. Sucked.

I drink coffee about once a month, if that. Tea a little more often, hot chocolate once a week or so in the summer. I prefer all of these at night rather than in the morning.

I drink lots of tea–does that have as much caffeine as coffee? I’m not very fond of coffee so I don’t drink much of it, but I am addicted to diet coke and probably drink more of that than I should.

I’m with ya, Opal- caffeine really doesn’t seem to affect me much, no matter how much I want it to. It’s a shame, 'cause I’m really not a morning person, and a bit of a pick-me-up would sure be welcome.

My wife has to have coffee to wake up in the morning, but she can drink espresso as a nightcap and go right to sleep.

I’ve tried coffee in the morning to wake up. It doesn’t work. It’s tasty and warm, but that’s it. It’s really a disadvantage, too, as I’m so very much not a morning person and having a way to force myself awake would be wonderful.

I’m the same. So far, I’ve had six cups of coffee and a can of diet coke, but I’m still half asleep. Go figure. I have a caffeine addiction by the looks of it,because I’m really irritable without this much coffee etc. I think years of phsyics has finally taken its toll.

“The grass is always greener” applies here people. Caffeine does wonders for me in the morning. But if I drink coffee too late in the day, or if I eat some chocolate after dinner, I’m awake til 2 or 3 am. This is not a good thing. In fact, I’m still fighting it. And I lose every time. When will I learn?

Coffee usually makes me sleepy. I rarely drink it, it can’t be tolerance. I probably drank the most coffee ever in college… always with some tasty treat, right before bed. Snooooze.

Daddy: but you have the choice of not having it that late. I don’t have a choice of having it wake me up.

Count me as another one who isn’t affected by caffeine: it doesn’t matter how much or how little I consume. Of course, I do have to put up with the by-product of drinking liquids…

The one time I did have something happen after drinking caffeine was definately not a normal circumstance. (8 or 9 4-shot espresso drinks + 2-liter bottle of Coke… all drunk in about an hour and a half. So I was thirsty.) About 15-20 mintues after this drinking spree, my head spun around exactly once, and that was that. What a rip-off: if I want my head to spin around, I just need to stand up too quickly. At least then I don’t have to put up with the effects of drinking so much liquid afterwards.

The most that caffeine usually does for me is get me addicted to it. I can even get addicted to one can of soda a day. It’ll perk my eyes open a little more, make me yawn less, but I won’t be hyper or exceptionally awake or anything. It also seems to screw with my sleep - I seem to feel less rested when I’m drinking caffeine (even if it was much earlier in the day), and when I’m off it I feel like I sleep longer, remember dreams better, etc. If I’m “on caffeine” and miss my one can a day, I get horrible headaches and generally feel bad.

So I’ve been off it since the start of the year, barring one or two cups of green tea per day (a big drop from a Mountain Dew or two per day), and seem to feel better as a result.

Coffee doesn’t do a lot for me in the morning, as I’m still half asleep even after two cups!

But boy, if I drink it at night, I am WIDE AWAKE and asking myself WHY I did this again!!??

I’ve often wondered why the dual effect. I wish I’d get the jolt from it in the morning that I get at night.

I prefer to drink coffee at night as well. The only thing coffee does is give me gut rot if I drink too much, especially on an empty stomach. I love a Diet Coke in the morning, but if I skip it I don’t notice any difference. I just like soda, I don’t think it has anything to do with the caffeine.

I like coffee as a warm beverage, like hot chocolate, and after dinner. It doesn’t keep me up at night.

…and it doesn’t affect me. I have drunk 16 cups of coffee, and there are no ill-effects.

You hear me? No ill effects. NONE. No No No No. NONE. Doesn’t affect ME. Wassat? What!? No sirree DOESN"T AFFECT ME AT ALL. Stop moving about. What was that? Why is the world all wobbly ?

I’m really glad caffeine doesn’t AFFECT ME AT ALL, otherwise I’d be jumPing ABOut ALL over the place and SHOUTING. Hmm. Hmm. Shutup. Stop moving about. Wassat?

My tyopsding is unafecty too

Caffeeine no longer seems to have any affect on me. It actualy seems to have some sort of reverse calming effect, and I keep a bottle of coke in my bedroom and if I get thirsty during the night I get a drink of that.
