Anyone else's BS-o-meter going off?

This is a bit of an old report, but I can’t help but wonder how long it would really take someone to get a fake passport these days.

It is really not a good idea to make broad insulting swipes at people (several of whom are not even participating in this thread) in this Forum.

We have a perfectly fine Pit where you can exercise you insults (and they definitely need the exercise) without cluttering up a discussion, here.

Yes we can hold someone for 28 days, they wanted 96 days, but the House of Lords chucked it out. Quite rightly so in my opinion, if the police can’t fit someone up within 28 days, then the guy must be squeaky clean.

We have quite a lot of experience of dealing with terrorists, until 7/7 we did not believe that ‘home grown’ Islamiscists would do anything so stupid, so we were not geared up.

However, 6 guys have been in custody for just over 12 months, so it is unlikely that the old tricks of de-briefing, back tracing, ‘turning’, and using infiltration were not thoroughly underway.

Terrorists are a lot more useful outside a jail cell, than spieling their life story to an interested and sympathetic audience. If you have got someone trotting around they can introduce you to a load of interesting new ‘friends’

  • and they are useful for fast track infiltration

The UK lot were definitely scooped up because something was going to happen, probably /not/ because they were going to blow themselves up, it would be easy to pick them off after check-in - a lot easier than a police raid.

It would be even more amusing to have a stewardess take away their hand luggage as there is not enough room in the overhead rack. With minimal organization one could have them sitting between two friendly diabetics who need to use their insulin injectors.

Most likely, MI5 were worried that they would cut and run, it could have been because the Pakistanis jumped the gun, but since that is the official line, it is likely to be untrue.

In addition, Blair would have liked to have been wearing anything other than his Bermuda shorts when it broke. Rushing back would have made him look incompetent - so unusually he was sensible and continued his holiday.

Another possibility is that the 24 (1 yesterday) had revealed all their contacts, and were no longer worth following, somehow I don’t think that was the case, because of Blair’s shorts.

Something happened, possibly it is simply that one of them realized that he was under close surveillance.

I wonder how many more are being watched

  • you would expect a ratio higher than 24:6 eg 4:1 from a slightly unprofessional bunch of young lads.

Hmm… I’ve just had a thought, did they really only get 24 ?

Heh. “All that”; as if I had posted a rambling manifesto or something. Perhaps it was the the big words that so impressed you.

And you won’t find it in my post either, because that is not what I said; though I can see why it is convenient for you to misrepresent my post, because arguing that the attack was imminent is now futile.

You find pretty much everything scary, doncha LP? Look behind you! It’s a terrorist! Boo!

No. But it is very disturbing the way you guys sound like Stormfronters talking about Jews.

Whatchoo talkin’ 'bout, Godwin???

You. When you talk about Bush, Republicans or conservatives in general, you sound very much like a Stormfronter talking about Jews.

That steaming turd needs no response; it speaks for itself, and you.

(shrug) If this is the best response you’ve got, I’m satisfied that I’ve made a sound point. There is a very disturbing resemblence between lefties who are always on about the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy and white nationalists who are always on about the Jews. It’s interesting to note that white nationalists hate Bush as much as lefties.

When you start seeing plots and conspiracies everywhere, it’s time to calm down and get a grip.

Hey! My BS-o-meter just went off. Maybe it’s working after all.

And voting for democrats will encourage terrorists, right LP? By making such ludicrous charges, you and Cheney are shooting your party in the foot. Every time you open your mouth, it puts another moderate vote in the Democratic column this November. I won’t respond, because it suits my party’s goal; to take back the House and Senate, with your help.

Where did I say that?

Your boy Cheney did, and it is the same kind of alarmist claptrap you are spewing. Repudiate it if you dare.

Why do you call him “my boy Cheney?” Can you cite any posts I’ve made on this board where I’ve even mentioned Cheney? I don’t remember any.

As for the “alarmist claptrap [I’m] spewing”, I’m merely pointing out that ranting left wing loonies have a distinct resemblance to ranting right wing loonies. The psychology behind cranky conspiracy theories is the same for both the left and the right.

Don’t flatter yourself…I was militantly unimpressed. :stuck_out_tongue:

No? You didn’t say “Now that some time has passed, the truth is coming out, and if it is not an outright fabrication, it is ceratainly an over-statement to say that the plotters were on the verge of inflicting a devastating attack upon America”

True, you didn’t use the words ‘no threat’…and I suppose technically saying the threat is ‘certainly’ ‘an overstatement’ isn’t EXACTLY saying there was no threat at all…but its not like I completely exaggerated your claim, no that there was no basis for thinking as I did.

BTW, the attack WAS imminent…depending on how you use that term. Look it up some time…imminent, about to occur, impending. When you are at the dry run stage (per your own cite), your plan is imminent. When you’ve tested the explosives and found the concept works your plan in imminent. Oh, it may be a week away…maybe two or even 3. But you are no longer in the conceptual stage at that point.

Yes you did, and no there wasn’t.

No dry run occurred. Intentions are little more than wet dreams.

This has been debunked. They possessed some of the chemicals necessary, but none had been tested. From my cite:

Now, you may debate the what the meaning of “is” is, but by no stretch of the imagination was this plot nearing “imminent” execution. Unless it suits your politics to portray it that way.

Well guess what - “emergency” on plane from London to Washington, diverted to Boston. Three arrested; early reports here include a woman armed with a screwdriver bearing a note about Al Qaeda. Anyone still think it’s BS?

NBC

It will turn out to be another over-reaction. I predict she will never be convicted on terrorism charges.

:stuck_out_tongue:

Bit of circular thinking there. From your cite:

The sources btw being the sources by which you are basing your arguements on. True, they didn’t actually DO the dry run…they were stopped from doing so. Not EXACTLY a ‘wet dream’ however.

Your definition of ‘debunked’ must be different from my own. From your cite:

Did you actually READ your own cite? Not that a single source cite based on unknown people of unknown purpose using unknown data is all THAT reliable mind you…but this SEEMS to say, to me at least, that my statement that ‘When you’ve tested the explosives and found the concept works your plan in imminent’ has not in fact been debunked…at least not by the cite you provided. Would you care to try again? Maybe you could give you your trusty decoder ring that is enabling you to read volumes from this one small article?

Gods, another one. :smack: So, tell me, how exactly does my purported support of Bush doing a heck of a job have anything to do with the price of tea in China…or with this issue? I await your answer with bated breath…
