Ach I will figure out Imugur linking later.
Awesome! Glad it went well. You’re much more heat-tolerant than I am.
At what time did you start the climb up the S rim?
Boots on ground by 5:15 from Havasupi.
Glad it went well! That’s something not too many folk do - at any age!
Congratulations on the trip! The Canyon never disappoints.
SunWife and I will be heading there sometime in the next year or two to do rim-to-rim up the South Kaibab, as part of the Arizona Trail, so hearing about your trip is a big help for us.
Haven’t done south rim to north rim or vice versa, but I’ve done rim-to-river-to-rim (S. Kaibab down/Bright Angel up) a couple of times, North Rim to Roaring Springs and back, and South Rim to Plateau Point as day hikes.
The Plateau Point hike is the most memorable as I hiked up from Indian Gardens in a major rain/thunder/hailstorm. It would probably have been smarter to wait at the gardens until it blew over. But instead I put on my newly-purchased poncho, put my head down and trudged up. There were several spots where there was a pretty good stream rushing down the middle of the trail. Luckily I wasn’t hit by lightning and my brother picked me up at the trailhead. We drove back to Mather Campground and found our campsite was still covered with a layer of hailstones.
Looks like the North Rim Lodge has burned down. It’s very sad for me; I have 30 years of memories in that lodge.
Yeah. Sad. Glad I got my trip in. North Rim apparently now closed for the rest of 2025.
