Seems I may have heard of this vaguely. It didn’t get much media attention though. I think his name was buttafu… something like that.
AudreyK said: You guys on the mainland hear about the Xerox shooter here from last year? He once asked out my former co-worker’s sister. Creeped her out totally when she heard what happened.
Brian Uesugi, the man who killed seven in a shooting rampage in the Xerox building in Honolulu late last year, was sentenced today (September 9). Life in prison, no possibility of parole.
You can read about his sentence at the Honolulu Star-Bulletin newspaper Web site at http://starbulletin.com/2000/08/08/news/story1.html.
The original story from last November can be found at http://starbulletin.com/1999/11/02/news/story1.html.
I have two good ones:
First, one of the ushers at my brother’s wedding was a friend of his named Rod. I was one of the groomsmen, so we’re all standing there together in pictures of the wedding party. About a year after the wedding, Rod was arrested. It seems that several years earlier, Rod and two other people kidnapped and killed a teenage girl and buried her in the New Mexico desert. Apparently a fit of conscience overcame one of them, and he confessed and ratted out Rod and the other fella in exchange for lenience. Rod’s still sitting in jail. It’s kinda morbidly funny now to look at the videotape of my brother’s wedding and see Rod…
The other is within my own family, and it’s like something out of a bad soap opera. My cousin, Dawn, married a fella named Don. Things were fine for many years, until we heard (they live in Minnesota, several thousand miles from us, but we’re still pretty close) that Don’s brother’s wife had died. Shortly thereafter, the police arrested Don’s brother for murdering his wife. At trial, the whole story came out: Don’s brother and his wife had been arguing about the affair that he and Dawn (my cousin, remember) had been having for quite some time!
When she threatened to leave and expose the affair, he pushed her down the stairs. She was badly hurt and unconscious, but alive. Don’s brother apparently thought it over a moment, went outside, got a length of pipe, came back inside, and, in his words, “finished her off.” He then went outside and did the chores, tending to the cows and such (typical Minnesotan, eh?), then called the police.
Oy, what a mess it was. Dawn had to testify at trial that she and Don’s brother had been having an affair. Believe it or not, Dawn and Don are still together, although we (the rest of the family) now engage in serious speculation as to which of the brothers is the real father of her children.
Well, fortunately no one died, but…
My ex-fiance was a coke addict. He went thru rehab and we lived together for a while, but he was still spending every last dime on drugs. I finally got the hell out. A couple of months later, I get a phone call from him, babbling about being sorry. Then his best friend calls to tell me that my ex has just been arrested for armed robbery. He and one of his drug buddies apparently needed some money so they decided to hit a bank.
About a month after that, I find a business card in my mailbox from the Nassau County, NY police. Freaked me the hell out. I called up and discovered that, before the got arrested for armed robbery, my ex and his druggie buddy had managed to get a fraudulent credit card in some woman’s name and got the bills sent to our old apartment. Fortunately for me, the police didn’t think I had anything to do with it. But they wanted to know if I knew where he was. “Oh, yeah. He’s in jail in Suffolk County. Perhaps you could call them.”
I am now free from that jackass.
20 years ago I was a DM for an AD&D game. No, that’s not the horrific crime.
This new guy, Mike, came to the game, and he was really into it. He was just a little too strange and creepy. Unfortunately, he was also a co-worker, so we were stuck associating with him.
After several months, I got a call from a player – ‘Check out channel 9!’ There was Mikes shadow in profile behind a sheet, and his voice, as he described molesting children for the last 10 years! He told about molesting his own kids, and any others he could get ahold of. It was supposed to be anonymous, but anyone who knew him at all easily recognized him.
What sucks is that we were all in the Navy, and his last command knew about his ‘problem’. They just transferred him across the country rather than do anything about it. Well, his not so anonymous appearance on TV ended the big secret. So our command, rather than jail him, put him to work in the gym, handing out towels and basketballs. Perfect. He was soon molesting kids at the gym too. Eventually he was kicked out of the military. If he’s in prison now, it’s because he continued his molestations.
Thanks for the links, Baglady!
I met Aaron McKinney. He’s actually a really tiny guy in person. They were having some of his preliminary hearings at the law school that I went to, and he was in the hallway. I also saw Russell Henderson through a window in the Moot Court room until a cop ushered me away.
And my grandparents lived with Charles Manson for a while. Or so they say.
I work with the Public Defender, so I’ve seen some really nasty guys, but nothing that I would describe as horrific. So far, anyway.
A guy I knew in high school got busted for stealing a bunch of speed from a drug store. The same drug store that used to give candy to us kids when we couldn’t buy it. This was about the 300th time he’d been in trouble. His family didn’t want him back when he got out, so the pastor of his church took him in for awhile. Shortly after, the dirtbag raped the pastor’s 8 year old granddaughter and ransacked the place while he was gone. I hear the kid lived. He took the $56 he found and scored some drugs. He was found wasted in a stolen car later the same night. Last I heard he’s still rotting in hell.
My dad once had a friend who turned out to be a contract killer. I met him a few times when I was little before anyone knew about his real profession (he told people he worked in construction) and he was a really nice guy (to me at least) who used to play soccer with me in our back yard and buy me sweets and stuff. Oh well, I guess you can never tell, can you.
A friend of mine who I’d known for 10 years
had a baby boy by a crazy guy. She was in
and out of courts for three years to keep
him away from the child. When he heard she
went away with her new boyfriend over the
New Year’s holiday, he went to her house,
sliced her hand and grabbed the child.
She called the police and went to the hospital.
While she was there, the cops wanted outside
the guy’s house for almost two hours while
he threatened to kill himself and the child.
After 30 minutes of silence, they broke in
and found the guy and child, both poisoned
with ammonia and cyanide.
The oddest twist is that when this happened,
the woman had just conceived another son, who
is healthy and happy.
I knew a boy as a minor aquaintance. He was well known to my middle sister. He murdered his girlfriend when they were seniors in high school. Evidently they got into a fight at a club one night. He beat her, strangled her, and slit her throat. Then he dumped her at the “power lines” a local area where teens hung out, partied, and “stump jumped”. She was found the next day by several boys that knew them. He went to prison and several of his “friends” had to testify against him during the trial. This was the worst example I can think.
I also knew a boy when I was in my late teens that went off the deep end and shot the new boyfriend of his X. He broke into her apartment and waited for the couple to come home from a date.
Then I knew a young girl through my younger sister that died of a drug overdose. Her boyfriend, another drug addict, wrapped her body in a blanket and drove around for another 8 hours running down crack connections with her in the back seat, dead. When he was out of money, and only then, he took her to the local emergency room. My sister was terribly upset when the news came out about her death. They had been friends in high school before the girl got strung out.

“Stump jumped”?
Xisor, the man to whom you are referring to is Joey Buttafuoco. Hi little girlfriend was Amy Fisher. Iwas a Saturday Night Live topic for many weeks.
This is a friend of a friend, but anyway… my friend from Houston said that they went to high school with a guy who seemed nice enough, had a nice family, etc. One night he took them all hostage, tied them to chairs in the dining room, then set the house on fire so they burned alive. Whoa.
Some prick killed my friend’s only sister in Greenwich Village two years ago in a hit-and-run. He jumped bail and is still on the loose, although his girlfriend (who is living with his parents) is pregnant again. Something tells me he didn’t exactly flee to Europe. I wish one of you knew HIM so I could turn his ass in.
I work with this sort of people every day. They are very charming and social when behind bars…just seem like your average guys. You’d never suspect they could do such terrible things. It’s a good idea when cautioning our children about “strangers” to stress that the boogey man doesn’t always look wierd or mean.
In my own family, my first cousin found out that her husband was having an affair. She told him that he needed to crawl under the house and look for a leak in some pipes. Once he was under there she shot him in the face…eliminating that eyesore. He lived and she only did 5 years. Go figure.
Early 80’s - I was single. A couple I’d known a few years decided to fix me up with a fellow they knew. What the heck - right?
The guy came to see me - he was from Norfolk and I was living in Baltimore at the time. We went to a movie, then back to my place afterwards to talk. During that conversation he decided to come clean. He was out on bail and REALLY should not have left Virginia. He was accused of trying to have his wife killed, but, he assured me, it was not true. I was kinda creeped out, but he left and life went on.
A few days later, my well-intentioned friends called and left a message on my machine apologizing and begging me NOT to see this guy. Turns out he DID conspire, I can’t remember if his wife was killed or not, and he wound up making a deal to testify against the guy he hired in exchange for a lighter sentence. some months later, I got a letter from him - only with a new name. Apparently when he went to prison, he got religion.
I’m still friends with the couple, but I managed to get hooked up with my husband without their help.
Johnboy I think Xisor (and correct me if I’m wrong Xisor)was playing along with my playful attempt to obscure an event using casual language which was so incredibly publicized to the point of remaining in national headlines for an extended period of time (not that there’s anything humorous about said event).
But yes, you both got it. I didn’t know her at all, but she did go to my HS.
Just today my mother sent me a link to the Florida webite where sexual offenders are listed. There I found my uncle (by marriage) categorized as a sexual predator with about a dozen cites of “unlawful sexual contact with a minor under the age of 12.” This uncle has been divorced from my aunt for many years, but when I was a kid, our families went camping and hung out together all the time. Seeing his face and criminal history there gave me a stomach ache for the rest of the day.
One of my friends father beat his wife to death with a hammer over a 6 hour period while drinking a bottle of gin. He then dumped her body in the lake and held off the police surrounding his house for a while, wounding 2 of them, IIRC.
And I’m making like Satan. The statute of limitations may have run out, but I’m still keeping my mouth shut.
At the old daycare center I used to take my kids to there was a woman with 3 kids whose husband tried to kill all 4 of them. The were in the middle of a divorce and had a 5 year old girl, 3 year old girl, and 8 month old boy and it was the dad’s weekend with the kids. She took the kids over to his house to drop them off and when she went inside the house he tied her to a chair and sat the kids down on the couch. He then turned on the gas and went to the back bedroom and shot himself in the face with a shotgun. The woman managed to untie herself and get the kids out of the house. She called the police and the ambulance and I guess the guy was still alive when they got there… he must have been a really bad shot. Sorry, bad joke. I was shocked when I came to the daycare the Monday after this happened and heard about it! Stuff like this isn’t supposed to happen in my small town!
I also was friends with a kid that was playing Russian Roulette and shot himself in the head. The story going around was that a bunch of the guys were at a party and were drunk and thought that it would be fun to play Russian Roulette and Jamie is the one that lost. The other story (this is the one most of us believe) is that he a deal went down wrong and they shot him. Jamie was a drug dealer and supposedly he made a bad coke deal and they shot him.
I also witnessed a high speed chase back in January when I was on my way to Florida. This Bronco came speeding down the off ramp and pulled right in front of us, there were about 10 cop cars chasing him on the freeway and we followed them. The guy driving the Bronco lost control and started driving the wrong way (head on into the oncoming traffic on the freeway) and he flipped the Bronco and was ejected from it. His body was lying about 30 feet from the totalled Bronco. We sat there watching for about 15 minutes and then left. It was an incredible chase! Too bad it ended the way it did.
