The first time I took my driving test for my Class “A” CDL, I almost jack-knifed the truck. Hey, it was raining and I was on an interstate off-ramp. I passed the second time. The examiner said, “You did well enough that I have to give you a license but I would give you a job.”
Wow, I never realized how much I appreciated rural Iowa.
My brother and I were driving as soon as we were able to see over the steering wheel and reach the pedals.
In high school I took drivers ed. and only had to drive a total of 3 hours with the instructor. When I turned 16, I walked into the DMV, handed them my certificate that said I had passed drivers ed and walked out 15 minutes later with a license.
I missed one on the written test and nerver took a driving test.
Or never.
God, do I win? Ten years ago and it’s still kind of embarassing.
I have passed the test three times. It does get easyer each time. First time at 18 and I had lots of practice. Second time at 22, it lapsed and I had been driving without a license for about two months. At 34 it was because I was a “bad boy” and had been caught driving with no insurance.
Every time I drove without, I drove safer. Paranoia is a good thing.
