I’ll give a short description of what I’m attempting to do, and then ask some questions-
I spin electro/bass/dark breaks. If you don’t know what that is, it’s electronic dance music, but it is missing the normal 4/4 steady beat. Instead it has heavy bass and a broken beat(think old school hip hop type beats). Instead of floaty, happy synth melodies, it has dark crunching basslines, really pschotic sounding keys, mechanical effects, laser type sounds, etc… almost all vocals are run through a vocoder and are either robotic or evil/demonic.
Film clip with a dark electro song:
I’m wanting to add a keyboard/synth to add the above type effects and simple melodies over records I’m playing, and there is a pawn shop in town that has a Korg MS-20 Legacy and a Korg Micro-X. I don’t plan to do production (yet).
Does anyone have experience with the above keyboards? From what I can tell, the MS20 might let me make crazier sounds, but the Micro-X is newer and has more preset sounds and rhythms. I’m guessing the MS20 will be better to just drop an effect over a record here and there, but the Micro-X would be better for production work.
I’m really looking for anyone who has used either the MS20 or the Micro-X to give me an idea of what you use it for and what you can do with it.
