Anyone Have An Oculus Go?

Thinking of spending my Christmas money on a VR headset. Only the Oculus Go is within my budget.

a) I have glasses. Does this machine have a system that allows me to move the lenses to adjust to my vision?
b) Can I watch TV on it? As in, I have Jeopardy! on my cloud DVR on my TV, and I want to watch it without Mrs. H griping about it. Is this possible?
c) I note that some YouTube videos have this VR thing where you can watch a video in 3D VR. How do you switch between the two (3D VR YouTube videos and regular YouTube videos)?

Since no one else seems to be answering – I don’t have a Go but I have an Oculus Rift, and my son has a Go which I used for about 5 minutes once. So these answers aren’t exactly first-hand; take them with a grain of salt.

a) I’m sure you can use a Go with glasses. I don’t remember the details but I wear glasses and I used my son’s Go without a problem. I’m not sure what you mean by “move the lenses” though. The Rift and the Go are designed with “focus at infinity”. So if you good distance vision through your glasses while looking at the real world, you should have good vision in the Go. Apparently there’s a spacer you use with glasses.

b) You’re asking if you can connect your DVR to the Go? I don’t know if that’s possible (I doubt it), but there is an Oculus app that lets you stream certain types of content through the Go. Apparently it supports Netflix, Hulu, Showtime and possibly other sources, although the exact details are not clear to me from reading the app description.

c) I haven’t used Youtube VR, but apparently there’s an Oculus app that you use to access it.

I haven’t used a Go in a few years so take my answers with a pinch of salt.

You can transfer video files directly to the Go and watch them and there are probably also apps that will allow you to stream videos to it .
I am guessing the Go Youtube app works like the Quest where you can can play 3d and 2d videos and the app will just play them automatically. There are options for specifically searching for 3d videos if you wish. 3d videos look great on the Quest and probably will also on the Go.

You cannot emulate your prescription lenses by adjusting the Oculus. Your options are to wear your own glasses or to buy prescription lenses for the Go. If you just skip your glasses, you’ll have a blurry experience just like you would anywhere else without your glasses.

I personally spent $20 at Zenni on some round prescription glasses that I wear when using my headset. They’re more comfortable under the headset than my rectangular usual lenses but don’t require any extra fiddling when passing the headset to another player like pop-in prescription lenses would. Also a lot cheaper since prescription lenses start around $70
