For those of you unfamiliar Yerba Maté is the South American Tea drink that cleanses the system, improved clarity of mind and body and is supposed to mimick the effects of Coffee on the system.
You see my wife and I are entering the Body for Life Challenge in October, and we are trying to wean ourselves off coffee and trying to eat as much low-faw high nutrient foods as we can. Ultimately we are trying to change behaviours, shed a few (30) pounds and live a healthier lifestyle. Essentially, we are following the philosophy of "what one person can do, another can do"…
So, does anyone drink Maté on a regular basis? Any noticeable health benefits. I know it helps many people in South America with the effects of obesity and other ailments.
I don’t know about “regular basis” but I drink it at least once a week or so. Remember that it’s still caffeinated, so if you’re quitting coffee to get rid of caffeine, you’re replacing it with the yerba mate.
Personally, I drink it because I love the flavor and it seems to energize me a bit. I’m also eating healthier, as well, though. That means I can’t say for sure if my added energy is because of the yerba mate, because of eating healthier, or a combination of both. Even if it doesn’t do much, it still tastes great.
I’ve taken it in the form of a tea calledMorning Thunder from Celestial Seasonings. I never drank it consistantly enough to notice any longer term benefits, but I did find that it gave me better engergy than coffee. I was not jittery and could focus more than just drinking regular coffee or tea. YMMV, but I liked it.
