I saw one in the store and I seem to recall hearing some good things about them… so I am thinking of picking one up.
Any thoughts from fellow dopers that purchased one? Are they worth it?

I have a George Foreman rotisserie oven and I love it. I mostly use it to roast whole chickens in it, and the finished product tastes just as good as the supermarket product. I’ve also used it for roast beef, leg of lamb, etc. and everything has come out great. The only thing I don’t like is the skewers for cooking sausages and spareribs. The skewers pop out of their holders and there is very little room for popping them into their holes. Clean up is pretty easy and excess fat just drips off into the removable pan. Once I cut up a potato into thin slices and placed them into the drip pan. When the chicken was done, the potato slices were starting to cook. I finished them off with a twenty minute roast in my oven, while the chicken rested. The meal was delectable.
I recall one of the posters saying something like his rotisserie smoked up his whole kitchen & he wondered why that didn’t happen with the ones he saw on tv. Maybe too much fat?
I have the Showtime. It makes a pretty decent chicken, but it’s definetly smoky. We usually use it outside when we’re cooking with it, but it’s worth the effort. We even cooked one of our Thanksgiving turkeys on it this year, and it turned out great. As long as you can put it outside (and that’s important. It DOES smoke) it’s a pretty decent product.
My dad has the Showtime and he LOVES it. He’s always kept it outside so he’s never complained about any smoking. But it really does make a great meal. My dad likes to do cornish game hens and vegetables in the little tray thingie.
They really do smoke, eh? I have posted on another board that I frequent every now and then and so far I have gotten total thumbs up but nobody has mentioned a smoking problem with theirs.
If they do smoke badly enough that you want to put it outside, I may have to re-consider. Its below freezing here pretty much every day from November → March. I would like to use it during the winter months too.
