I didn’t know about this collaboration until yesterday and after listening to the samples I’m sold. I’ve told my husband I want it for Christmas but I’m not sure I can wait that long.
Has anyone heard it? Is it as awesome as the samples?

I bought it last week and have listened to it about 10 times so far. I like it quite a lot. I’m definitely a bigger fan of Alison Krauss than I am of Robert Plant (at least his solo stuff); on this album, a lot of her vocals are simply harmonies or backgrounds to Plant’s (similar to what she did on a couple of songs on her brother Viktor’s album Far From Enough – including Big Log, which I suspect may have been the impetus for Raising Sand). Krauss has an amazing voice that I’ve admired for many years, and I really like that she uses it to “soften” the edges of Plant’s vocals (which sound incredibly good, too).
The radio stations around here are playing Gone, Gone, Gone (which I’d heard before by the Everly Brothers but didn’t recognize this as a cover), Please Read the Letter (a re-working of Plant and Jimmy Page’s song from 1998’s Walking Into Clarksdale), and Fortune Teller. There are a lot of familiar names in the songwriting and backing band credits.
The vocals are simply marvelous, and the backing band kicks butt. It’s a very fun album, and I highly recommend it.
Excellent. Thanks.
Now there’s no way I can wait until Christmas.
My fiancee got it and I’ve heard most of it.
Yeah, my first reaction to this pairing was,“Huh?” And I’m not really an Alison Krauss fan either. But I liked it.
People expecting to hear Krauss’ bluegrass sound or Plant’s powerful Zeppelin pipes will be disappointed. This is a very soft, understated album. I especially liked their versions of the Everly Brothers “Gone Gone Gone” and Tom Waits’ “Trampled Rose.”
