Anyone have the Nuvaring? How's it working?

I’m on my first month, and I like it so far. I haven’t had the first-week morning nausea that I did with the pill, and I’m also not retaining water like I used to. I was a little nervous about getting it into the right place (it kept slipping out at first, then it was uncomfortable), but with a little experimentation I got it to a place where I can’t feel it. I was also nervous about it hurting/interfering with sex, but it’s been fine.

I agree on the cost issue. My insurance won’t cover it either, so I’m paying about $44 a month. I checked online and the prices there aren’t much better. But, it’s worth it for the convenience and the reduced side effects.

I’ve been on it for over a year now and I LOVE it. I recommend it to anyone.

Quick background. I started with Depo but it threw me so out of whack I switched to the patch which is awful for all sorts of reasons, especially if you’re fat like me :). I tried the pill but I’m terrible at taking meds every day, so I couldn’t use it effectively.

Nuvaring is the greatest. Plus, the little stopwatch thing is neat. When it’s time for a new ring, it beeps three times. My boy always says “put it in”. Silly, but makes me laugh.

I stopped having periods, so life is good around here. I get my one cramp a month, bad skin breakout and my three or four days of weepiness (no animal planet rescue shows during these times). Better side effects than with Ortho Tricyclen.

Am I the only one who keeps hearing the old punchline, “If we can find my keyring, we can ride my Harley out of here.” ?

Didn’t work for me. Which made me sad. I had no problems inserting or removing it. I just turned into such a raging psycho hellbeast that it was not worth continuing. I know it’s an extremely low dose of hormones, I just don’t seem to have any tolerance whatever. We gave it up and went back to condoms/spermicide (I’d been off the pill for a couple of years before we tried it just because the pill (even a low dose) depresses my libido way too much. Grr.

The mechanics of it on the other hand were simply beautiful, it fit fine, was easy to use, and I’d recommend it if you’re not some kind of chemical anomaly like me.

Am I the only one who went to the “test the ring’s flexibility” part of the site and made the little ring dance??? Yeah, I probably am…

anyways, I’m on Orth Tri-cyclen lo right now, and was thinking of trying something else, mostly because I’m paranoid I’ll forget to take it, even though I haven’t really. This sounds like a better option for me than depo-provera, which I was considering.

What about side effects? My long-distance romance is about to become a short-distance romance, so we’re evaluating our options. My last gf on the pill gained weight (some of which was in her boobs, which was nice) but also had wild mood swings. I assume that similar side effects can occur with the Nuvaring as with the pill.

Interesting reading, I was just looking at the pamplet in my OB’s office a few weeks back. I asked the doc if anyone had ever lost one, she said she’d never heard of that happening and gave me quite the odd look for even asking.

But, c’mon…I know I can’t be the only girl who’s had a saturated tampax eject itself when I pee, there have to be circumstances that could occur and cause a similar loss, right? :dubious:
