I have an old Koyosho Nitro powered truck thats been sitting up for quite a while now (over a year) and is in need of a major overhaul. This thing had a Nitro sprayed all over it when it was put away and has not been cleaned since. The engines going to have to be completely taken apart and each part individually cleaned from top to bottom before it can be run again. What type of cleaner would you recommend for cleaning both the engine and chassis?
And I have one too that has been sitting around, in need of a clean up.
Engines of all types, from aluminum to iron are usually cleaned with kerosene.
If a boat engine (full size here) is submerged, it gets cleaned up with kerosene.
R/C engines - if you stick to the metal parts - can be cleaned with kero or try a Gunk-type product. You can use the nitromethane to clean it too.
You really have one concern, no matter what: FUMES! STAY FAR FROM ANY IGNITOR. The fumes are invisible and I know at least one person burned when he cleaned his old airplane with kero. Just go outside and you will be fine.
But you’ve got me re-interested in firing up my truck. I have just an entry level truck with a .10 motor and two wheel drive.
I’m heading ovet to Tower Hobbies website to do some more looking. They probably sell something. I’ll post something if I find it.
