Anyone here willing to admit to hoarding turlet paper or hand sanitizer?

I bought a couple packs of TP the other day because I was running low. In the parking lot a complete stranger shouted, “so you’re the one buying up all the toilet paper!”

I will admit that in normal times I probably would have bought just one. I don’t really consider this hoarding behavior (maybe it is?), but I’m curious if anyone 'round these parts is willing to admit to more extreme stockpiling.
mmm

Not hording, but I got lucky. I bought a case (12 bottles) of hand sanitizer on Amazon about a year ago and still have 3 or 4 bottles left, so I’m good there. Similarly, I got a case of toilet paper from Amazon about a month ago and just opened it up last week. So, good there too.

Just yesterday, one of my sisters asked me what the deal was with the toilet paper being out everywhere and I explained to her how the panic buying thing works. You see everyone with toilet paper, you see there’s not much left on the shelf so you grab some too.
Not 5 minuets later, she got a call from our other sister. She said she was at Costco, and everyone was buying toilet paper so she got some too. She then added ‘I don’t even know why I bought it, I don’t need any, I have plenty at home’. It was kinda funny.

No, though as I’ve written in other threads, we did update our normal earthquake supplies and make sure we had food for several weeks at home.

I didn’t buy those products, but I must admit I bought a few extra things last time I went shopping. Things like a package of pasta, while I still have some at home. My Total was about 20 euros more than it normally would have been.

Ummm? I’m a bit of a hoarder anyway. I try not to be. I have a case of John Wayne TP I bought a while ago. It’s in my garage. I buy Charmin or Angelsoft if I see it on sale semi regularly. So I’ve never gotten into the case.
If I was home I’d probably be buying more stuff. I like (love) hand sanitizer anyway. I’ve always got it on my person.
Crazy?
Careful?
You decide.

No.

Precisely a week ago, at the grocery store, I grabbed a twelve pack of toilet paper because there seemed to be a run on it, and literally everyone else in the grocery store seemed to have at least one pack in their cart.

I’m a little glad I did – this weekend, even the Kleenex was gone – but I still hold the vain illusion that they’ll continue to manufacture the stuff.

Failing that, there’s old magazines…

And hand sanitizer? It’s nice, but we have a big jug of the stuff that’s lasted a year now, and is still three quarters full, and being a fully growed adult, I long ago mastered the mystic arts of soap and water.

We’re just not desperate enough yet, I guess.

I didn’t hoard. But two weeks ago, I knew the hoarding was going to happen, so I bought a 4-pk that I didn’t need.

I did buy a 9-roll pack of toilet paper, the size and time I normally buy it. There was still plenty on the shelves. The only shelves that were empty were hand sanitizer, alcohol and bread.

I’m not hoarding, but I bought a package of TP at Costco a few months ago and I think I’m probably good for another year.

Milk, now, that’s gonna be a problem.

Just the usual earthquake supplies. Crazy people be crazy people.

I went to the local grocery store today. Bought 4 rolls of single ply so I’m good for a month. I bought other stuff that I was out of, like lemons and mushrooms. Got a pound of ground beef and a small pack of country ribs. Popcorn and butter. Kosher salt. I do need distilled water for cleaning a medical device so do a quick Walgreen’s stop tomorrow.

A few weeks ago there was a big sale on toilet paper. We bought two 12-packs, so that will hold us for weeks.

As for hand sanitizer, there’s none on the shelves of any of the stores where we shop.

I usually have a good supply at home but I did break down & buy one 6 x quad rolls the other day when I went as the open pack is almost empty.

When all of the dust settles from this, I will have storage of hand sanitizer in the house, as in I’ll buy an extra bottle or two when it’s back on the shelves & reasonably priced again.

I was running low on TP a couple of weeks ago, so, as usual, I picked up a package of 36.

I didn’t pick up sanitizer. But I’ve gathered a few over the years.

I admit that I bought (2) 12-packs of Charmin when the whole oh-shit-there’s-a-run-on-TP panic hit social media. I was in the store for something else, was curious if the rumors were true, so went and checked. They had lots, so I picked up a couple of packages out a vague sense that it may be my last chance to do so (and I really didnt know how much we actually had at home). We usually buy Marathon from Costco. When I got home from getting the Charmin I found that we had 20 rolls of the Marathon left but also had a 6-pack of generic TP that had been in the back of the closet for God only knows how long. So, I figure I’m good for at least 3 months – with 4 people in the house, we use a roll every 2-4 days.

I have 2 unopened and one mostly full 8oz bottle of hand sanitizer that I bought a while back when my son and wife were sick. I wish I had bought some Purell wipes, but those are the kind of things I dont think about.

I’m not a hoarder by nature (my wife is a junk hoarder, but that’s another issue…) so it feel weird to me to stock 6 months worth of something in the house. Last year we had a big snowstorm that knocked out power in the county for a week or two and all but one of the grocery stores closed. We were housebound for days. I told myself after that that I would stockpile a month’s worth of rations plus propane and charcoal and water purifier and and and… but, I never did. We have perhaps 3 weeks worth of food in the house, mostly frozen and canned, so we should be good there for a bit.

I had a clogged sink this afternoon and, after snaking failed, I relegated myself to using Drano, which I did not have on hand. I went to the same store that I bought the Charmin at last week. Sure enough, they were out. But they had paper towels, Kleenex, and milk (I bought a gallon).

I need TP, but can’t find it. I was waiting for my first paycheck in 11 months to go shopping because doing so before the check would have had to be on credit. I can’t afford to put everyday stuff on a credit card. I’ve been there when unemployed before.

Boom, Friday was payday. Off to Target I go after work. There was no tp, only a few boxes of kleenex and 3 packages of paper towels. The frozen meals were gone almost gone. I scored one of the last noosa yogurt packs and a box of tissue paper that I’d better not flush. I got some other foodstuff as well. Saturday at the grocery store, hardware store, dollar store, no TP. An enterprising gas station was selling their restroom supply at $1.99 a roll. I didn’t buy. Today, I stayed home and cleaned rather than get depressed by shopping.

I have not bought more than I usually do. I don’t buy paper towel or toilet paper more than maybe three or four times a year so when I do I usually buy a jumbo pack.

Wife was shopping yesterday, she said the TP shelves were fully stocked. But the canned sardines are wiped out. Rice is getting low in supermarkets, but still plenty in street markets. (Philippines)

I also haven’t bought any sanitizer. I have a giant bottle on my desk that I wish I had brought home before they decided to go all telework.

Canned beans seem hard to come by in the supermarket.

Canned beans, dry beans, rice and pasta were all wiped out at my local store. So were bananas.
