Anyone interested in a RPG PBeM?

Both Nomine and Amber sound pretty interesting… I would love to play in Nomine (I have had ideas for c’s that I might write about who are angelic demonic and I need more ideas) and Amber looks pretty cool… so it doesn’t matter which is which to me but I would like time to figure out how to play it and maybe help from people who have the books smiles hopefully It takes me a little to learn

And just a suggestion… how about an eZboard for this instead of email? It’s easier for me cuz my email is blocked from school except the school mail and I’d probably be replying in my spare. Just a thought I can probably wing it if we don’t use one though.

Damnit! I had a whole long deal typed up and hit send just before my ISP lost connection.

Grr…

Anyway, Amber isn’t a parallel universe. Amber is the Center of All Things of Order. The One True Realm of Which All Others are Mere Shadows. All other worlds/universes are shadows of Amber or were created by the Children of the Bloodline by their whim. Including Shadow Earth (us. :))

The Pattern was drawn by Dworkin, the father of Oberon the family patriarch, using what was once the Eye of the Serpent of Chaos. The Pattern forced Order and claimed half of Shadow for Order. This, along with the theft of the Eye of their God still has Chaos pissed off at Amber.

Traversing the Pattern “awakens” the inate Power of the Blood of Amber in the descendents of Dworkin so that they can manipulate Shadow to their whim and travel through the multi-verse. They can find anything.

In addition to the Pattern, you also have access to Shape Shifting, Sorcery, Conjuration, Power Words and Trump Art. Trumps are tarot like cards that Amberites can focus on and use to travel to other places or talk to their relatives.

If they’re careful, Amberites are immortal. Yes, they can be killed, but it takes a lot to do it. They heal fast and take wounds better. Corwin, the hero of the first series of Amber books, was dumped on Shadow Earth during the Plauge with amnesia. He recoverd from the Plauge and lived on. Later his eyes were burned out and they regenerated in 5 years.

In addition to the powers, there are also only 4 stats in Amber: Strength, Warfare, Psyche, and Endurance. You can also build magic items and creatures or your own Shadows. I think there’s character sheets online somewhere, I’ll check my links.

The links posted above have lots of info and lead to lots more. My main site that lists all the games I’m in and my characters is Shadows of Amber and can give you a better idea of characters and different game scenarios. WARNING: Some of the pages have adult content.

Really the only limit to Amber is the imagination of the players and the GMs.

Amber or In Nomine, I have them both!

Heck, we could do both!

On second thought, I’ve got enough going right now.

Sorry.

I run AD+D at my school, so I would look forward to picking up some plot ideas etc from a PBem.
I’ve read the Amber books by Roger Zelazny.
When do we start?

And what about your beautiful, lovely wife? Last I heard she wanted to play something. Anything, if I remember correctly?

I simply don’t have time. I’ve been working 50+ hours a week, plus everything that I do outside of work, plus two toddlers, I barely have time to relax and unwind.

My heart isn’t in it right now. I wouldn’t even do a tabletop RPG right now.

Kai’leen

Count me in. I’ve never played it in this medium before, but I might as well give it a shot. (too hard to find amber gamers in my area for some reason)

Well, what the hell? I’ve already got characters in tabletop AD&D, Star Wars, and Champions campaigns, not to mention an invite for a Warhammer RPG character (if I can get myself to give up another night every other week…)

I know nothing about any of these Amber settings or anything, though…

Amber sounds good. I couldn’t play all fast and furious though.

I’m not exactly sure what you mean OF (if it is OK that I call you that), but would that be similar to a message board like this one? If that is the case, that would be great for things that are generally known, but not for submission of turns in which you would probably want part of all to remain secret from other players… Could you explain a bit more?

Anyway, so far we have the following people interested to play:
robgruver
RKM (sorry I abbreviated that)
Jeff Olsen
Arden Ranger (only if it is Amber. Broaden your mind a bit, girl ;))
Obsidian Flutterby (hereby known as OF from now on)
glee and
Amedeus
DynoSaur

That certainly is enough to start an RPG with, but which of these people are really dedicated enough that they can send four emails per week for at least a couple of months? Ofcourse there will be slow and busier periods, but I’ve seen good PBeM die because of undedicated players. I’d like to avoid that here if possible.

Also, I checked out those links that Arden posted, and after reading her post, I came to the conclusion that I really don’t know enough about Amber to comfortably run it. So if the majority wants to play Amber, I’m perfectly fine with that, but I’m afraid that I can’t run it. I would most definately be a player though… But if someone else wants to give it a shot, great!

BTW, Jeff, I played in a Star Wars game before, and definately enjoyed it (heck, I think I would enjoy any RPG). I played a very annoying Kid then, and was pretty convincing at that. But would you think it is easily adaptable to PBeM format, and if so, are you happy to run it?

Alright, alright. I give. Just to lure more of you into the Amber web. I’ll run one, just gimme a little bit tothink up a short term plot for newbies. My games usually are grand, sweeping adventures that take closer to a year to play through than a couple of months.

I just need to know who’s interested in playing in an Amber game so I can plot. Post here and I’ll send seperate emails after that.

OF, I can’t run one of these on EZ Board. While that gives it more of a FtF feel with everyone knowing what’s going on with everyone else, it just doesn’t sit with me. Can you get a secondary email address like Hotmail, Yahoo, Mail.com or one like that?

Jay Arden! Cool.

I think I already know what I want to play. The character I played in that Amber session a few years ago suited me great, so I think I’ll stick with him if that’s OK with you. Don’t have any of his stats anymore, and can’t even remember what his lineage was, but he was a ranger type person with two throwing axes that came back to him when he called them (they turned into a hawk when thrown). His father was a nature type person and I think his domain was somewhere in the woods next to the city, is that possible? He was rather thick headed and not too bright, kinda stubborn, but was great fun to play. Does that sound good?

I’m guessing you were Julian’s son. He’s the Warder of Forest Arden. We’ll work at more specifics in email.

Julian it was… I can’t wait to play! Thanks for taking the burden Arden. If I’m a bit more comfortable with the setting I’m happy to take it over from you.

It only occurs to me now: Warden in Forest Arden. Julian equals Ranger type person… Seems to me you are addicted to Amber that you even have a screen name that reflects it…

heh. The Rangers are Julian’s soldiers that help patrol and protect Amber’s land border. Forest Arden extends through several Shadows so he needs a lot of help.

FTR, Julian and Benedict are my favorite characters. Which is fairly obvious if you visit my character sites.

Okay, for those interested in playing Amber, contact me at antonia@cowboy.net

Oh, and it might not be a bad idea if everyone could read at least the first book in the series Nine Princes in Amber by Roger Zelazny. I don’t know how available it is for purchase as a single volume at the moment since they recently published all 10 books in one volume The Great Book of Amber, which is $19.95.

Of course, the gamebook would be great, but it’s kinda hard to find.

Never played this before but count me in.

MannyL, visit the above Amber links so you won’t be totally lost.

Oh, and I have a plot! So you guys need to let me know soon. I’ll have to bring everyone up to speed on some things, but it’s fairly simple.

All of your characters will be around the same age-in your early twenties or late teens. None of you have walked the Pattern, so this will make it easier on everyone who is unfamiliar with things, though this is the age you would normally walk it, around 20.

Working title for the game is “Don’t Touch Anything”.
