Note to anyone concerned: I did run this thread past the CS mods before creating it and got the thumbs-up to post it.
With the release of the new model of Kindle, I’m sorely tempted to upgrade. That means that my second-generation Kindle would need a new home.
I’d include the USB cord, **A/C adapter **for the cord, and the **cover **I bought ($30)–that is to say, everything that came with the Kindle, *plus *something extra. The Kindle is in very good condition–I just pulled it out of the cover to look, and I don’t see any marks or scratches. I haven’t had any problems with the Kindle itself, other than having to do a hard reset once. It’s running the latest version of the software–v2.5.6–so it supports all the newest features for the model. The cover is also in decent shape, with the wear you’d expect on something that had been used for a year and a half–no scratches or marks, but the cover has clearly been folded back a lot.
I’d be happy to take pictures of everything, if anybody would like.
I bought my Kindle 2 new in March of 2009 for **$360 **and the cheapest used ones listed right now are $145. New Kindle 3s are **$189 **for the ones that include unlimited 3G like the Kindle 2. My asking price right now is $125 for everything, but I’d be willing to entertain other reasonable offers. As soon as I have a confirmed offer, I’d put in an order for a Kindle 3, then ship my old one to you as soon as the new one arrives. Obviously, I wouldn’t expect any payment to change hands until the Kindle was ready to go.
Any takers? Any questions? Feel free to reply in the thread (gogo bidding war! :D) or in PM.
I’d support a separate “Marketplace” forum here. I wonder if this is fair to other dopers with stuff to sell. I’d love to give them all a voice.
Nonetheless, hope you find a good home for your Kindle! You should try your local paper and Craigslist, too – you might have a quicker bite that way. I’ve had great luck with C’List – almost instant sales, and no shipping hassles!
I would have totally bought that last week but I caved and bought a new one (and not real happy that there’s a newer version on it’s way for the same price!!).
Oh, yeah, hey, Shot, what state or country are you in? This is probably a bit relevant. Oh, and if it’s running the 2.3 firmware, it does pdfs natively. Did you update?
I’m interested enough to say ‘done deal’ though. Provided I can hook it to my Amazon account. Not much use if I can’t buy books for it.
All formats it can support, either natively or through conversion, are linked upthread. The Kindle also has some MP3 support, though I’ve never used it. There’s a basic web browser that can handle text-based sites (it does best with mobile versions).
Yup, I’ll deregister the Kindle before I mail it, and then you can re-register it to yourself. Nothing personal, but I wouldn’t want to be paying for your downloads.
My WAG is that the administration doesn’t want to do it on a major basis because of liability issues. But maybe if the occasional thread like this one goes well, they’d be amenable to giving it a shot.
I thought about it, and that’s where I was going to go if I couldn’t get approval to start the thread here. But TBQH I trust Dopers better than people on Craigslist. Too, this way I could make sure I had a buyer before ordering a new one.
Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA. (It’s in my profile, but you can’t see that from here.)
As I mentioned in the OP, it’s been updated to 2.5.6, which is the most recent version.
So that’s official, then? Just want to make sure we’re in the same country.
Yup, MKE is one of the cheapest airports in the U.S., fortunately for us natives. It’s not unusual to hear about flights that connect through O’Hare where it’s a couple of hundred dollars cheaper for someone to drive up to Milwaukee from Chicago, get on at MKE, have a layover at ORD, and then continue on to their final destination than it would have been for them to book the same flight, but starting from ORD. The ways of airlines are strange indeed.
I do both. I think I have about 300 books in the apartment as of last count, plus more in storage.
If it’s cool with you, I’d rather just do a physical check–otherwise, PayPal is going to take a cut of the proceeds. Plus, we don’t have to worry about the transaction until the new one arrives. (You caught that in the OP, right?) They’re currently estimated to ship in early September. Let me know if the timing would be a problem–looks like there are a couple of other interested folks, so no worries here if that would make you change your mind.
If you’re still good to go, drop me a PM and we can discuss the details as to payment, shipping, and the like.
I like knowing it’ll go to a good home. Thanks to all of you for your interest!
