Chicken flavor, of course! No, just kidding. I’m still looking through bird reference sites, but I couldn’t resist.
Sometimes, the simplest approach is best. After poring over page after page, it occurred to me to just back into the site your photo is on, and navigate to where that picture is. Sure enough, I arrived at this page. The caption next to the photo seems to identify it as a Cape vulture.
Yeah, but what flavor is it?
Oh, sorry. England. “Flavour.”
Except that the caption doesn’t match the picture. This is a Cape Vulture; the picture mentioned by the OP is the Lammergeyer or Bearded Vulture, Gypaetus barbatus. That site discusses them in Europe but I’ve seen them in Africa too.
I did say seems to identify. It occured to me that the site might have misidentifed it, but not finding another picture anywhere that matched it, it was the best i had.
oh, and good job, everton. Well done! I emailed the owners of the site mentioned in the OP, so maybe they’ll fix it.
I s’pose it only goes to show that webmasters and picture editors are not necessarily experts on every topic they handle. I wouldn’t have known myself if I hadn’t seen them close up.
To update: the webmaster of the site I referenced emailed me back, saying they would fix the problem, and thanking me for bringing it to their attention. Once again, the SDMB strikes back against ignorance and wins!
