Anyone know where this bit of Spyware - PeopleOnPage - is coming from?

In the past week, if I run AdAware at least once a day, it keeps finding an item called PeopleOnPage. I have not downloaded anything recently so I don’t know where my computer is acquiring this item. I’m going to switch over to FireFox from IE, but I’m trying to figure out how this keeps coming back when I keep deleting it. Thanks!

Thanks for that, but…I’m trying to figure out how it got onto my computer in the first place. Reading the description, POP! isn’t doing the things it says it would (thankfully, I suppose). And I have yet to see it show up in my Add/Delete Programs list. Man this is weird.

I belive the free version of Spyware doctor removes that one (see http://www.download.com)

I had a similar infection. Many types of spyware will create several copies of themselves then make changes to Windows registry so that, even if you delete one copy, other secret copies will be run after the next system reset. The offending spyware “comes back,” even if you delete it. Usually it takes a very recent spyware program to find and delete all those copies.

Ahhh, interesting. Thank you, both of you.

Oh honey! I had this and it was a MUTHA to get rid of. I had to get a geek friend to walk me step-by-bloody-step through a program called Hijack This, and read log files, manually delete stuff, restart my computer a bunch of times… it was a nightmare. Since I had a buttload of adware and trojans on top of the PoP thing (despite having a firewall, Ad-Aware AND Spybot) I have no idea WHICH files were the ones that pertain to your particular problem - but I wish you many good lucks in getting rid of them! Find someone who knows how to read Hijack This log files, is my best advice to you!

Sometimes it is best to run Ad-Aware in Safe Mode as it cannot delete an active program. If you are using Windows XP make sure that you turn off System Restore as well because these things may come back from that as well.
