About Allan Quatermain from Rider Haggard books and the LXG movie… everyone, myself included, seems to naturally throw in an R to make his name Quartermain.
Are there many people named Quatermain? Is it an old English name or did Haggard devise it himself?
And what about Quartermain? Is it common?
(My Googlings have only brought me pages of debates about the comic and the movie.)
It's the darndest thing, but doesn`t that brochure sound as if the South African hotel was named after the fitional character, not the other way around?
There’s a character in the soap opera General Hospital named Alan Quartermaine. I presume that the writers took the name from Haggard. I don’t see any resemblance in the stories or characters.
Character, nothing, there’s a whole family of Quartermains on GH. Edward, Lilah, Monica, Alan, A.J., Jason, Emily… NOne of them are in the habit of looking for King Solomon’s Mines though, too busy plottin and seducing and whatnot.
