I’ve never had a baby, but how much time and work will a cat be? By the time you have your baby, you kitten will be a cat. You’ll need to feed him and scoop the litter box once a day.
I’m all for being practical, but to me, a cat just isn’t that much work. No kids, but I have 4 horses, 5 cats and 6 dogs. You just have to be efficient, that’s all.
I guess anticipating the litter box is the biggest deterrent. A new born and cat poop just don’t mix in my head. I want to be able to take this little guy in without any reservations, but I have some so I don’t think it is responsible to get a pet unless you are absolutely sure. It’s not the cat I think will be the issue, it’s the infant which will require 24/7 care and two 5 year olds.
(Plus, despite my mom’s protests, I think she really likes the little guy, so she may end up keeping him after all. She named named him Max. She got him his shots, and is feeding him and has a place for him to be in the house during the day when she isn’t there so he doesn’t accidentally trip my elderly, blind grandpa who lives with her. Gramps even likes the little fella. We shall see.)
