Hey, Hilde Andrea! I understand your view that it is wrong to eat any kind of meat, and there is no difference between whales and any other animals that way. Many people everywhere are vegetarians.
Yes, Americans do eat a lot of pizza and hamburgers, but we eat almost anything. People come here from all over the world and bring their cuisine with them, and the larger cities have restaurants serving almost any country’s food. Chinese food is so popular that we have our own Chinese dishes that aren’t even available in China, much like Indian restaurants in Britain.
One thing that often impresses us native English speakers is how much better at speaking it many Europeans are than many Americans are. You learn it “by the book” and don’t make as many mistakes, or use as much slang, as we natives do.
We know our television shows and movies are popular worldwide, but did you know that a lot of them are actually made in Canada to keep costs down?
We didn’t like seeing Kelly Clarkson lose “World Idol”, but your Kurt Nilsen seems to be a pretty good singer and a good guy, too.
You are the best representative a country could have. I thank you for your comments. You are a credit to your family, your school, your community, and your country.
Hehe… Kurt Nilsen is a good singer, yes… I wish I could sing. But unfortunately, I can’t. I only play the piano in my spare time…
I’ am trying keep my Grades good, planning be a veterinary (difficult in Norway, probably I have to study in another country).
Without singing anything. You know, very many Norwegians girls at my age got angry bacause of Kurt Nilsen won, not Kelly Clarkson. I thought it was fine, hello! Norway’s position in the world is important for me. Many people think Norway is the capital of Sweden.
Then, probably my Viking blood goes hot!!!
I know that Washington DC is your capital, and I remember the names of many of the states… (South Carolina, Idaho, California, Arizona, Florida, Texas, Alaska, Hawaii and many others.) I know that John Kerry is leading with most of the volts, or has he already won…???
Hehe… USA is on the news every day in Norway, difficult not to getting know stuff.
Go Norway! Go Norway!
Do you know it was Norwegian guys who invented the paper clip AND the cheese slicer. Impressed? Hehe… Big stuff!
Davs, Hilde Andrea. I have nothing to say except that I’m always glad to see another Scandinavian on the boards. I’m American myself, but lived in Denmark for a year or so, and would love to visit Norway someday…oh, and my degree was partly in Scandinavian lit, so I’ve read some Norwegian books from the 1800’s.
Naturligvis. I still speak pretty good Danish, and can always understand the letters I get in Norwegian from a friend. I’m still in contact with my host family (they live near Odense).
Hehe… det var fint å høre. Naturligis!!! Ikke ofte en ser det på engelskspråklige debattsider. Danskepølser (de røde) i brød med sterk ketchup er fryktelig godt! Nam nam, jeg elsker dansk mat…
To all the others:
Of course most of you don’t understand what I’ve written… It’s norwegian… Norwegian, Swedish and Danish people understand each other mostly!
I wrote that the Danish sossage taste very good, especially with hot/spicy ketchup! Jam, jam!!!
I’m very impressed Hilde. When I was 13, I was still playing with rocks and not debating the rights and wrongs of the whaling industry on a message board in a different language. That said, I don’t think its entirely wrong for people to be whaling, especially if its part of their culture. Of course I would object if said hunting was leading to the extinction of those fine animals. As another poster said, “What does Whale meat taste like?”
Btw, I have many Danish friends. What can I pick on them about?
Wait a minute, you must be from Norway too???
I just don’t understand how you know… Maybe you are a Norwegian I know, or where are you from???
It’s not possible to guess where in Norway I’m from just seeing my name, so I probably know you, or not?
Who are you, and where are yoy from???
If not, you are VERY good at guessing…
It’s not like that in Norway, people from Nord- Norge (Northern Norway) use double names as well as people from the south…, that’s the reason for being scared, I didn’t understand how you could know…
But YES, you’re right, I’m from the south…
For a moment I thought you had to be from Norwy too, but now I understand…
Hehe… I was shocked…
Hehe:
What’s your name?
Hilde Andrea.
You must be from southern Norway… Somewhere near the capital…
Oh… You guessed right, must have been a coincidence…
Yeah that’s right, just a guess…
It sound a little scary, right…
I’m sorry, know I understand why you guessed right…
