Yes. Like TokyoBayer, my parents are mormon. I firmly believe that some degree of abuse is inherently expected from mormon parents. I do believe the doctrine has something to do with it, but it might just be the patriarchal authoritarianism.
I say that I wasn’t raised, I was allowed to live. Cub Mistress, our time frames are close and I was wondering if you experience this, too…the “mid-century” style that many people like sends me into a tailspin. Remember those tall white Tupperware salt & pepper shakers? They almost trigger a panic attack. I associate so much of that era with abuse that I’ve never watched Mad Men.
