Anyone remember what this childrens puzzle game series was called?

I remember when I was a kid, I used to love this series of adventure puzzle books. They were in the kind of format of a Fighting Fantasy or Lone Wolf in that there were numberered paragraphs throughout the book, at the end of each paragraph you would choose where to go next, and the progress through the story didn’t correlate with number of the paragraph you were on.

In this one, you played a group of 4-5 teens, (one of whom I think was called “Beans”), but they focused a lot more on puzzles than Fighting Fantasy or Lone Wolf and had a much more linear storyline. Any decision you had to make, you should already know what to do as you should have figured it out.
At each intersection you would get more points for getting the “right” answer straight away, less if it took more than one attempt, and a “custard pie” if you did something stupid. Ath the end of the book your score and number of “custard pies” would indicate how well you had done.

There were about 10 of these at least, but my Google-fu has failed and cannot find anything about them. I’d love to get some for my nephews this Christmas.

I don’t remember the scoring but it sounds like they’re a subset of the choose your own adventure genre.

Moved Cafe Society --> the Game Room, since though these apparently were presented in book form they were essentially puzzles/games.

As a genre, these are called “gamebooks.” Here’s a list with a lot of them on Wikipedia:

Is one of them the one you’re looking for?

No, none of those as far as I can tell.
