I did a little experiment. I read 4 sheets for pee. Not enough. It took at least 8.
I have so much toilet paper hoarded.
I have a large household at this time. 5 adults. 2 children and an extra 2 adults and 2 more children part time.
In my math-challenged brain I think we’re good for 6mos, tops.
I hope I’m right.
We have about a dozen rolls left of what we had before the hoarding started plus the Costco megapack we got just as the hoarding started. I see a constant supply on the grocery shelves though the brand selection is limited. It helps that it is made locally maybe.
We were at Costco in the early afternoon this past Monday and we saw that most departing shoppers had a package of some kind of toilet paper in their carts. We have a good stash at home, so we didn’t even go down that aisle.
I have the stuff on “subscribe and save” through Amazon - and had just gotten another case (4 6-mega-roll packs per case) in early March. As it happens, we hadn’t even cracked the case from January, so I think we’re set for the time being.
I did log on to Amazon and change the shipping frequency from every 2 months to every one month. We’ll see if we get the case in early April…
I have 12 rolls of TP but we probably only use 1-2 rolls per week in a two person household of one male and one female. As backup we still have 6-7 boxes of Kleenix that could be used.
We jumped on it pretty quickly because of our experience in Tokyo when the Fukushima nuclear accident happened. We always keep about a month supply but have more now. We’ve got a bidet toilet so we don’t use so much.
Around where I am there is no crisis, and there never was. The crisis was that some of the “nice” brands like Charmin were gone. But we always had “house” brands. Now you can find it most days and it restocks in a day or so…
I am fully impressed at how well stocked my local markets are.
I don’t use that much I usually do most of my “business” at the office.
If I run out and the stores are still empty, I can “borrow” some from the office.
The “nuclear option” is I still know people at the wholesale warehouse from my Safeway days who can hook me up warehouse-direct. It’s my understanding that it’s not that there’s no TP, it’s that the supply is just bottlenecked at the distribution warehouses; they just can’t put enough on a truck to meet the demand.
Has anyone determined what % of the public are hoarding toilet paper? As that minority feel their supply is safe, hopefully that’ll open up supplies for everyone else.
I’m in the same position. Except I think I have more rolls, and am just one person and yeah I have the excess facial tissue.
Funny thing about 3 days before the craziness around TP began, I was shopping and had a coupon for $5 off two large packages of my brand of TP. I hauled 4 packages up to the checkout and asked if I could use the coupon twice. The cashier tried it and it only let her use the coupon once. So I said ok, put two packages back.
I walked out having bought just two packages instead of four. And that was the last time I saw toilet paper at the store.
I have enough for a year. It’s the Scott 1000 sheet rolls. One roll will last a week for a single person (like me).
I stocked up last year after I got home from rehab for my stroke as I wasn’t sure how often I’d be able to go out and shop and stuff. And at the time, the store had 12 packs on sale – buy one get one free. So I bought a lot of packs to say the least.
Also stocked up on deodorant, shower soap/body wash, shampoo, and toothpaste.
Well–I improved way faster than I expected and I’m fully mobile.
I haven’t had to buy any of those things since last January.
I actually lived in San Diego from '82 to '90 and my mom lives in Solana Beach. It is worse believe it or not. We get all of our water from Lake Cachuma, not State Water.
Even before the stores were out I thought about stocking up, but then I saw that I had stashed a 12-pack in my car in preparation for my trip out west next month which I probably won’t get to take. So I as a single person have 20 rolls left, so I won’t need any more for the foreseeable future. On the other hand, if it looks like my vacation will be a go, then I will pick up more if it happens to be available since I can always use some in my car for emergency purposes.
One of the few times in my life I wish I was a plumber. I can’t imagine what people are going to start trying to shove down their toilets once their TP supply runs dry.
Exactly - there is a reason that the morning routine is sometimes shorthanded as “shit, shower, and shave”. And since I’m working from home, I can put off my shower until I poop.
We’re down to four full rolls and an almost full roll. It’s just Ivylad and me and I was able to find some on Amazon, although they won’t be delivered until the end of April.
I shudder to think if someone has a UTI during this time.
I don’t know if it was just dumb luck but when I last went to Costco about a week ago they had a mountain of toilet paper. I had enough at home that I wasn’t panicking but not enough to not grab the one 30 pack allowed. I have not seen any in my usual supermarket in weeks.
I was out completely near the start of this thing but on the same day last week 3 things happened: grocery store had plenty in stock, a senior family member gave us some from his senior shopping trip, another family member mailed me some since apparently in some places you can still get it at most stores and gas stations without much trouble. So now I have a lot. That was after buying many boxes of tissues, napkins, and wet wipes.
