I went to Walgreen’s to fill a prescription today. As I walked in I saw people at the checkout holding toilet paper! I dropped off the prescription at the pharmacy counter and then started looking for the TP. There were three packages of 9 rolls each left and a sign saying 2 packages per customer. Good citizen that I am, I took just one package.
No, because seemingly atypically for Americans we don’t actually use that much toilet paper. We are kind of old school with washrooms set up for other, older methods. As long as the power is on and water is running to do washing and such, toilet paper is a pretty low priority on my list. Well below other things I consider absolutely essential.
BTW, someone I work with told me their brother is with the sewer department in a small city north of here and they are already having problems because people are flushing non-flushable stuff. Apparently people are cutting up tee shirts and using that. And flushing it.
People seem to be getting this crazy idea that wiping one’s butt with something renders that something flushable. Nope, doesn’t quite work that way.
Some people are poor. Some don’t see the benefit of clutter for not much savings (if a 4 pack is $1 and a 24 pack is $5.99, for example), and so on.
If you aren’t finding TP at stores, you need to try going when they first open and/or during senior or essential employee shopping hours if applicable. Also, try to find stores with those things plus strict limits. One of the major chains in my area had a limit 2. I went at 7am and when I checked out at 8 they still had some left.
