The end of the book is:
The road to Manderley lay ahead. There was no moon. The sky above our heads was inky black. But the sky on the horizon was not dark at all. It was shot with crimson, like a splash of blood. And the ashes blew towards us with the salt wind from the sea.

And that is how you end a book. And “Last Night I drempt I went to Manderley again…” is how you begin one. I think I read it as a teenager but can’t remember, will maybe read it again.

The opening line is one of the most famous of the 20th century.
Now I must see it. I LOVE her. She never quite got the big break she deserved-- she has star quality talent. But she is at least one of those people who was able to make a living as an actress, and not wait tables during the day.
