First season of 8 x 28 minute episodes was uploaded by Amazon simultaneously (acknowledging the binge market).
Curious beast. The trans thing was all well and good but I was almost totally distracted by my contempt for Moura’s children and their partners. That’s so unusual for me. Holy smoke, they annoyed the hell out of me …
But sure, the central story was well told and Jeffrey Tambor was terrific.
Anyone else see it?
I started watching the first episode a few weeks back and was so put off by the dinner scene where they all had sauce smeared on their faces that I decided I could no longer summon up enough interest to forgive them for the rest of their crappy behavior. So I binged on Downton Abbey and The Great British Bake Off and Mr. Selfridge and Portlandia instead. Might get back to it some day.
I watched it back when it was free for a day, but did it in two days. Did half the episodes via a British VPN on Amazon.uk, then the second half the next day on Amazon.com, exploiting the time zone difference.
I think it would be better NOT binge-watched, mainly because the kids were often so horrible, and it was harder to get over that than if I’d watched them more spread out.
But Jeffrey Tambor was amazing, and it really had a good pace to the story arc and the family dynamics. Lots of good secondary roles, too.
