I was just looking through the Ticket Master website, and came across a No Doubt concert that tickets are on sale for. I’m thinking about ordering tickets, but wondered if anyone could tell me what a no Doubt concert is like.
What types of people are there? Are they very good live? (I’ve seen them perform live on TV, so I’m pretty sure they are good live)… Just wondering if anyone had any insight into my “buy the tickets or don’t buy the tickets” dilemma!! Thanks for your help!!
I saw them during their tour for Tragic Kingdom and they were high-energy. Their encore was short but sweet: they started out with the Imperial March from Star Wars and then launched into Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da.
I saw them about 2 years ago with the Black Eyed Peas and some other flash in the pan band who’s name I can’t remember (I think it might’ve been Lit) They were pretty good. Gwen of course looked like a goddess in her skirt and thigh-highs and they sounded pretty good too (her speaking voice is just as sexy as her singing voice, especially when she acts mad and swears.)
The next day a bunch of people I went with were complaining about how she was spitting on the crowd but I honestly didn’t see this and didn’t hear anything about it until the next day and I didn’t get any spit on me.
As far as the crowd…there was ALOT of girls there of all ages, there was probably at least 4 girls to every guy there. I’ve never even seen half that ratio anywhere else in my entire life. All in all it was a pretty good show, I would definately go see them again.
Never seen em, but the Faint are opening for them on this tour and they are cool. Great live as well. Although their style seems to have nothing in common with No Doubt’s, so I can’t say that I’d expect many people to enjoy both acts. But you never know.
I saw no doubt on tour back in 94 about 4 months before Tragic Kingdom was released. They already had 2 albums out and weren’t that popular outside of SoCal. The were opening for All at the show I went to.
They were in this tiny little club in Provo Utah. Excellent show.
They rocked so hard i went and bought the 2 albums that were out, unfortunately many of the songs they played were off their forthcomming Tragic Kingdom album. I told all my friends they absolutely had to buy their stuff, then they came out and hit it big.
I saw them during the Tragic Kingdom tour (with Face to Face and Weezer, execelent bands both) because my kid brother was big fan and several years too young to drive. I was mainly interested in seeing Weezer, because by that point I’d only heard a couple of No Doubt songs- and one of which “I’m just a girl” I hated. Still do, actually. I wasn’t expecting to enjoy them much, but I was blown away. They were fantastic! I left the concert with a brand new apprication for the band and have wanted to see them again since.
I don’t believe this is true. The part about Gwen’s brother being in the band–not the part about him working on The Simpsons.
From what I recall from VH1’s Behind the Music, he left the group years ago…before they recorded Tragic Kingdom (the album that put them on the map).
I did see them perform live, back in 1993 they played my college’s “Springfest”. Very good band…incredibly energetic. Oh–and their lead singer is a hottie!!! But I bet you knew that…
I have to tell you I’m on a quest to own every song ever concieved by NO DOubt . I’m an absolute fanatic and have almost every unreleased and B-side song from them.
I also am desperate to see them live but where I live nobody ever comes there. SO I’m thinking of travelling to Toronto, because I’m pretty sure they’ll be there this summer.
By the way, does anybody have Return of Saturn? That is their best album so far. After litsening to thier other stuff I’d actually put Tragic Kingdom at the bottom of my list. If anyone would like to hear some older, unreleased, original or live stuff I’d be happy to send it to you via ICQ.
No Doubt was the first “big” band I saw. If my time line is correct, the show I saw occurred in Spring 1996 just as “Just a Girl” was starting to hit big. They were touring with Bush and Goo Goo Dolls, and were the least known act. The lights went out and they came out playing the imperial march from Star Wars before launching into simply a blistering version of “Spiderwebs”. It was rock and roll, and I was hooked.
I don’t listen to them much these days, if at all, but that show stays with me to this day.
Red Menace, I saw them on that tour as well, in Montana. They were much Much MUCH better than Bush or Goo Goo. That was a while ago, but DAMN! I shoulda just left after No Doubt finished, 'cause the rest of the show was lame after hearing them!
