Anyone seen the original MEET THE PARENTS?

How was it? Details please.

Stupid but funny. I saw it in the theater, which helped (nothing like other people laughing to get you to laugh).

Very entertaining. The humor isn’t so much in “jokes” as it is in the embarrassment of the main character, which may or may not be your style. While it is of course exaggerated, the concept of meeting a girfriend’s parents and EVERYTHING going wrong is all to real to me, so i relate and find it quite humorous. The dialogue is crisp and feels like very real conversation, everyone is beautifully casted, overally i can’t wait for the sequel (which i don’t expect to be as clever).

I should have clarified- MEET THE PARENTS with Ben Stiller is actually a remake. The original was produced partly by Emo Phillips who also has a part in it (a bit part I believe). He may well have a production credit in the remake as part of allowing it to be made. Has anyone seen that one?

I had no idea the Ben Stiller film was a remake. I was even more surprised when I found out that it was a remake of a film from 1992! The writers of the original - Greg Glienna and Mary Ruth Clarke - are credited in the remake.

To be honest, I’ve never seen either version. I probably should, because I’ll probably end up going to the Stiller sequel Meet the Fokkers. (I have to get my monthly theatre fix after all. At least eight shows a month.)

Anyhoo…

Oh, yeah. Mary Ruth Clarke and Greg Glienna played “Fay” and “Greg” in the original. Jim Vincent and Emo Philips - producer and executive producer of the original - played a “video store clerk” and “gas station guy” in the original. They both served as associate producers in the Ben Stiller remake. Those are the only people I could find who were connected to both versions of the film.

Anyhoo…
