Anyone want to join my job search pity party?

Gah, put me in the catch-22 category of needing experience to get a job, and a job to get experience. :frowning: It doesn’t help matters that I’m not going to settle for help desk work.

At least there have been enough positive signs to keep me motivated in my search: all indications are that my skillset is good, but someone with more experience is preferred. Eventually something’ll turn up.

I have thought about that. This is an ongoing issue for me, and has been for years. I’ll have to go look at that website.

fuffle, that is some serious hoop-jumping. Best wishes for you getting something that makes it all worthwhile.

I liked Right Management’s tests best of all; I felt they did a good job of helping me pinpoint career interests. I think you might have to pay them, though, and I’m guessing they’re not cheap.

ALIS is an excellent resource. The Calgary office had lots of programs and the ALIS site has tons of information. I’ve used their stuff doing my papers for my courses in career counselling.

I was laid off at the beginning of April. I had an interview Friday that went well until I got to the last one - in the cramped cubicle of the HR guy. If he wasn’t asking convoluted questions he was being un-funny or going “Is that it? Is that it?”. I could picture whatever momentum I had from the other three interviews swirling down the drain.

I guess it wasn’t as bad as the one before where the interview team wasn’t even clear what job I was interviewing for. They had two positions open and I came in interviewing for one and went out interviewing for the other.

My old company uses Right Management for outplacemnt. I like them a lot. Mainly I use their jobs bank and e-learning. I should take advantage of their interviewing classes. I don’t think I’m very good at it.

Sure, why not? You never know.

Been looking to hire someone for quite a while, but can’t find anyone. People misrepresenting themselves, people with bad personalities, people who are unenployed and you understand upon interviewing them exactly why, etc. etc. Do I get any pity? :stuck_out_tongue:

NO PITY FOR YOU!!!

Okay, maybe a little.
