I’d say no great effect, as Yahoo Fantasy league scoring is not linked directly to NASCAR driver points, nor are points awarded on the same scale. For example, there is no adjustment to fantasy points for drivers who make the Chase.

In this game, a lot of points can easily get left on the table early in the season, when many teams have not yet shown which tracks they tend to be strongest on. The main effect of the points-docking, particularly for Waltrip, would likely be for fewer players to activate the driver, making him much more of a dark horse candidate than he may be already. I’ve gotta say I’d hesitate to add Waltrip to my team unless he shows something early in the first half of the season, given the dual handicap of having to qualify for every race on speed, and with the Toyotas in general not showing much as yet. That would be the case whether or not he had been docked points, however. The others, not so much of a concern; previous temporary suspensions of crew chiefs do not seem to have materially affected driver results (well, last year, at least).

My humblest apologies. I was only trying to be self-deprecating and mildly funny. I have changed my team name to Caution Creator, hoping the irony holds off the bad luck.

Just to get the fantasy league’s Silly Season into full swing, I changed my name as well. Though all I did was append “Racing” to the end of my name. And since I never did say what team I am, allow me to now introduce myself: Robot Chicken Racing (nee Robot Chicken).

And let me also mention that my sponsor is [Adult Swim]. So this weekend, and in the other restrictor plate races, you should expect a lot of [bump] drafting from me.

HA! I kill me!

Um, you won’t be posting illuminated signs randomly around the boards will you? That tends to make people nervous.

I have no plan to post them around the boards. But now that you bring up the subject, I realize I’ve never heard of anyone sponsoring NASCAR’s scoring loops.

Maybe, at various points around the track, the Mooninites can tell drivers where they stand.

Agreed. But I’d also hesitate to put him in because of his propensity to cause wrecks. He was responsible for two of them in yesterday’s 150. They just didn’t hurt his car. I was furious that Hylton didn’t make the race because of it!

It should be an “interesting” year…

Well I’ve nervously signed up as Pit Bunny Racing. I did some random picking based on who I think will run well at Daytona. I’m clueless about how changing drivers works, so if my choices look goofy, they probably are.

Two?

The one with Jr., yes. Absolutely. Though… Jr did slow down on the outside of that turn.

What was the second one?

Hylton got railroaded out of the draft… you know what that means at Daytona. He had a good run though, If it wasn’t for the to 35 in points being locked in, he’d be running the 500.

He was bumping up front. It caused checking up, which caused Hylton (and others) to move, which got him out of the draft. Like you said, we know what that means.

In other news, I’ve got a small group (including some local Dopers) coming Sunday for the race. Should be fun.

Is anyone but me not too juiced about this whole Chase thing? I think it was a better representation of talent to have the Cup decided by the complete season. France can’t seem to figure out why they’re losing fans. I’m betting it’s all the rule changes, and the attempt to steer the sport away from it’s former “base”.

I actually like the chase. It keeps the season from being decided 4 weeks before Homestead. I think there should be a few more points than they’ve decided upon awarded to the winner of individual races, but overall I like what they’ve done.

Now, if they could get the TV commercials during green under control!

As for the explanation of the “2nd issue,” ok, but that’s how racing is at Daytona. And it’s what we love about Daytona. One minute your driver is in 2nd, the next moment he’s in 23rd, then 3 laps later, he’s back in the lead pack.

I was stressed to an extreme for the final 3 laps of the first dual, but I’m a Mikey fan. I’m disappointed in his team’s cheating this week, but I’m glad to see him and his cars in the race. I think he’ll be back to his “middle of the pack” runs in short order. (Last year is best forgotten, he was driving the worst of the stable cars provided by a non-factory-supported, second rate team while he waited for his Toyotas to be ready… Even the 22’s cars were lousy, and Mikey didn’t get the best of the stable. Not that I wouldn’t have done the same to a 1 year “convienence driver” if I owned BDR.)

I’m not a fan of the Chase. At least not the prior incarnation. I do agree that race winners should get more points. Just make it a round 200 (195 for the win plus 5 for leading a lap). But I’m looking forward to this change: The points for each of the now 12 drivers in the Chase will be set at 5,000 with an additional 10 for each race win.

Ten weeks is too long for a “playoff season” in my opinion. A 30-race “regular season” with a 6-race chase seems more reasonable to me. But I’m curious to see how the above change plays out, so I may change my mind about the length of the Chase after this season.

I don’t have a preference for 10-man vs. 12-man field, though.

I don’t remember too many years where the chase was decided (in Cup, at least - Busch is a different story) 4 races before the finish. Most of them came right down to the last race, which was exciting enough for me and doing it over the whole season makes every track (small, medium, large, and road course) all count. There isn’t enough mix in the last 10 for my taste.

I was pissed about the Waltrip thing, in part, because his actions took out Ward Burton. Looks like his luck hasn’t changed a bit after his ‘sabatical’. sigh Not a good way to start the season. And did you see the dent he put in the top of his car when he punched it?

True. The winner should get lots more. But I also think that if they’re going to claim the Chase is the equivalent of a “Playoffs” then ONLY the drivers that make the playoffs should be in those last 10 races. I mean, who ever heard of teams in football (or any other sport) participating in playoffs who didn’t make the playoffs?

There’s an argument that fans won’t watch if their team is eliminated. I think that’s crap. If my team is eliminated from football, I still watch the playoffs. And if that’s the problem, increase the field for the last ten races to 20 drivers or some such.

To have a Chase driver wrecked by a non-Chase driver is just plain wrong. Get those cars that didn’t make the Chase off the track so we can see a race between the best of the best.

Opinionated, aren’t I? :stuck_out_tongue:

That Stewart/Busch wreck hurt. I had both of them. They were running 1 and 2. Idiots. Oh well, that’s plate racing. We’re about to move on to the cookie cutter tracks. The bread and butter of fantasy racing.

I, too, had Stewart. “That’s racin’!” :stuck_out_tongue:

I think, though, that Clint Bowyer should get some extra points for sliding across the finish line on his roof and on fire!

I suspect about 90% of all the players on Yahoo had either Stewart or Earnhardt as their “A” drivers, which was fortunate for me as my score was decidedly mediocre.

I loves me some plate racin’, though. Wasn’t all that exciting for the first half of the race, but the rest made up for it, and the last 15 laps were just nuts.

Wow. I think I’ll go ahead and enjoy the hell out of this week, since I doubt I’ll be leading our group for long; my picks were made almost entirely on gut instinct, blind sentiment, and a casual familiarity with some big names. And I totally lucked out with Mark Martin, whom I’ve always liked for his alliterative name.

For now, though, you can all eat Shark Week’s dust!
