I liked the Route 66 episode because while it was not really exotic to me, it was incredibly exotic to him. He is just so English and just so out of his element in America. His discomfort at the cuddle party was just like a scene from an English sitcom. Ricky and Steve are great at knowing exactly what will make him the most uncomfortable and putting him in those situations.
The wing walking scene would have been hilarious if they hadn’t already ruined it in the previews.
I actually laughed out loud when Karl was shooting to set off the explosives and he juggled the rifle after touching the hot barrel.
It was interesting that Karl actually liked Joe the Gold Prospector. I guess it made him feel like he was hanging out with an action hero.
Karl also was quite impressed by the Amish – their hardwork, their “real” childhoods. The only thing he didn’t like was the beards. The scene in which he took a jar of peas as a gift for Joanna made me chuckle. Clearly, even the Amish woman thought it would be a lousy gift, but she remained polite.
It was touching how Karl really got the tea ceremony once he stopped grousing about how long it was taking.
He understood how concentration and ceremony really helped him enjoy something that he already enjoyed.
I’m surprised that he didn’t comment on the bitterness of the tea, especially after saying stuff like “Lipton’s is very good.”
The Japan episode was great. The Sumo part was hilarious. I loved him eating crisps with the little gadget. The part where he says why it is better to like cookies than traveling was very wise in its own way. He does seem to have changed a little bit. It was amazing how little complaining he did on the way up Mt Fuji.
Not only did he not complain overly much on his climb up Mt. Fuji, he actually stopped, took a look around and noticed how beautiful his surroundings were. And he kept his bollocks safe from viewing for another series!
This week’s Karlosophy: Babies are completely useless for the first three years of their lives. If they wear mopping shoes at least they’d be doing something besides crying and shitting.
From the coming attractions it looks like he gets that proctology exam Rick has been on him about. He should get one done but I don’t know why, after adamantly refusing to get it done, he gets it done on camera.
I’m up to the whale watching episode tonight. I loved his dog sled ride! “How many hours are we doing? Fuck!”
I was really pissed at him for lying about not bungee jumping, though he eventually confessed. But I was really happy when he finally got to the top of Mt. Fuji, and actually appreciated the view.
My only question is: How does he get a cell phone signal in places that are in the middle of nowhere?
-
Has he really gone to the middle of nowhere very often?
-
Often they show voice mail messages instead of conversations.
-
Maybe he has a satellite phone.
As for the lying about the bungee jump, I loved that bit. I also loved his attempted coverup with the director wearing his baseball cap.
Karl Comes Home: Karl is annoyed that there are so many fonts. Again, he resents the fact that people can be creative and express themselves in different ways. He rents the fact that other people have choices.
He records a song!
Karl thinks people should have pet mountain gorillas because it’s “mental” and believes it’s. PCness that prevents midgets from renting themselves out as child substitutes. Also, I find it bard to believe that Karl did not agree to the postrate exam before the cameras started rolling.
It seems to me that Karl doesn’t believe half the shit he says until he says it and then, having said it, feels obligated to follow through no matter how asinine it is.
A question- the coming attractions showed a Japanese man saying, “Idiot abroad! Idiot abroad!” but I didn’t see it on the show. Was it in there?
They now have a promo for the upcoming “Idiot Abroad” marathon, in which Karl says that the viewers are the real idiots.
And his favorite moment was the hippo in the kitchen.
HBO is starting a new season of the animated podcasts on April 20th, so we won’t have to deal with Pilkington withdrawal symptoms for too long.
I too was wondering if I nodded off and missed the Asian “Idiot a-board!” guy…guess that scene ended up getting cut out of the American series because they have more commercials here than they do in the UK.
That there post should discourage me from using my Kindle Fire to write posts. I never fail to fail when doing so.
Also, I really liked his song. Who were the people he sang with? Are they big in England?
