Is anyone here watching Penny Arcade’s Strip Search? I thought it would be quite popular, but a quick lunchroom survey seems to show otherwise for me.
If anyone thinks they might be interested, the 1 minute teaser trailer is here - it’s basically a “Survivor” or “Apprentice” style show starting with a dozen artists who compete to have a bit of $$$ and a year working with the Penny Arcade creators.
What I think I like best about the show (other than it’s authenticity) is the fact that just by being on the show the contestants are advancing their careers by networking, etc. The Survivors aren’t ever going to see each other again, and so backstab left and right, while the Strip Search contestants are really stressed when they have to decide who has to go up for elimination.
I hope they have outside council on judging what those artists/writers produce is or isn’t funny. Holkins and Krahulik haven’t been funny in a very long time.
Comic wise, I agree. But they’re actually at their best when they’re just riffing on things, whether on-stage at PAX or on a show, as is here.
I love the show. It’s got its problems, like how it’s retarded the winner chooses the 2 people to go head-to-head, and some of the episodes have been pretty dull (like the god awful go-kart one), but overall, I’m hooked. It seems far more real than most shows and the people all seem really nice.
Also, I can’t remember laughing harder in a long time than when Jerry actually drank the comic. God damn that was funny.
I’m loving it! It’s been some time since I was really invested in a reality tv show, but this seems more… real, for some reason. People and tasks I can identify with.
