Anyone watching Season 2 "Love" on Netflix?

Rom-com is not my primary genre. I watched season one and liked it, just finished season 2. Better than season one, IMHO. Anyone else see it?
I guess the attraction to me was an unattractive, nerdy guy getting together with a hottie, damaged and deranged as she may be. He’s got issues too, for sure. I know when I finished the last episode of season 2 I was wanting to click to the next (non-existent) episode.

Maybe I’ll try it, the 1st season was pretty bad after an OK start. I was giving up on it.

I ended season one absolutely hating both of the lead characters, but liking the show itself. They’re both such assholes. Two eps in to season two, I’m liking them both more, and still like the show.

The ugly, pretentious, Andy Dick-esque lead was a big turnoff watching season 1. If I get bored enough I might try S2, but I’m not particularly enthused about it.

In what way is the male lead pretentious? He moved from North Dakota to L.A. so he’s kind of a country boy making his way in the big city. A certain degree of social awkwardness would seem appropriate.
Bertie is kind of growing on me too. Didn’t care much about her story line in season 1 but the cutting up the dead rabbit and storing it in the shed kind of won me over.

A friend recommended “Californication” to me. I watched it but somewhat un-enthusiastically. I thought “Love” appealed to a similar audience but was the better of the two. Does that make sense?

Oh Gus is fucking pretentious and kind of a shitbag at times. But that’s what makes him compelling–same with Micky. She’s an asshole. The show flips the romcom trope by making their flaws real deep flaws. It’s not “She needs to learn to relax and he needs to be responsible–how will they work it out? Nyuk nyuk”
They have REAL problems as people beyond their problems as a couple.

I do have to say, as much as I liked the character and how he played it–but casting David Spade was weird…In a show where Andy Dick plays himself, each time Spade came on, I had to reconfigure.

I mean, look at him. :poop:

I think Iris Apatow is going to have a future in the business. She seems like she will grow into a very attractive woman and she has acting chops on top of that. She’s the child star from the in-series series “Witchita”. The male lead in Love is her on set tutor.

Definition of pretentious, courtesy of the internet.

“attempting to impress by affecting greater importance, talent, culture, etc., than is actually possessed.”

I think Gus is actually kind of unpretentious. Issues? Yes. Pretension not high on the list, IMHO.

One scene I liked was when he stopped by a Catholic church to try to reconnect with his Catholic faith. It’s not really working for him but on the way out he notices a flyer for Al-Anon. Very helpful.

I absolutely hated the first season of this show and have no plans on watching the second. I don’t mind shows with unlikeable characters, but I couldn’t even care about what happened to these turds, and I did not find it remotely plausible that Gus could get the unsolicited attentions of both the sisters who wanted to have a threesome with him or the actress he “helped” (Heidi?), nor that he’d blow off both opportunities so casually. In fact, I pretty much want to see him run off a cliff in his Prius and crush Mickey in the process. The only characters I actually enjoyed were the Australian roommate (probably deserves her own show, which would be way more entertaining than this) and the always watchable Tracie Thoms in full-on bitch mode.

I hate watched the first season and gave the second season a try with an open mind, and only made it through 3 episodes. I don’t like either of the leads either.

I’m single and don’t feel the need to blow up at dinner parties when everyone else is a couple, or stare at my phone in defiance when my friends want to spend the night chatting up the opposite sex.

Those guys are big fucking babies. Not endearing at all.

When I was watching the season, I accidentally skipped the episode where they introduced Arya’s mother and father. So I figured that David Spade was co-starring in the action movie. Imagine my surprise when he said he was sharing a hotel room with Arya!

As it usually goes on this forum I’m in the minority. I love the show. Love the flawed characters, love the addition of David Spade looking very sleazy-dad-like, loved the appearance of Andy Dick. I love that they ARE big fuckin losers who can’t keep their relationship straight or their jobs straight. The show isn’t supposed to be sweet and sappy. You’re not supposed to like them very much.
