Oh, I wondered if it would show up for North America.
Saw them tonight on the way to the airport to pick up Mr. Neville.
The US gets the sad face. That’s ominous.
How high does it get once visible? My southwesterly sky has an awful lot of buildings and trees cluttering the horizon. If it’s already pretty low at sunset I might have trouble seeing it.
And some details from the Sydney paper: a smile that will light up the night sky
Oh man, you’ve just revalidated my happiness to open this thread. I’ll be taking a picture from my deck and posting it fer y’all.

On the Choctawhatchee Bay in Florida.
I happened to see them coming back home from Missoula. I knew one of them had to be Venus but I guessed the other was Saturn. I’m obviously not an astronomer.
I am in SoCal, and have been seeing to very bright objects, close together, low in the sky in early evening, to the south/southwest. Are they Jupiter and Venus? If so, very damned cool!
I ask because I can’t click on the link in the OP…
Yes, they are.

Oh well. It’s still kinda cool to know.
Crap. Sloppy weather here today… I don’t think there’s going to be anything to see in the sky tonight except clouds.
It was beautifully clear last night, but it’s clouded over today. We may not get to see the smiley face tonight.
Freezing rain here tonight. At least I got to drag out my old telescope last night and get a peek.
Actually, I got to see it tonight! It was an elongated smiley:

Woo!
Yep- that’s what we saw!
One of the things I’m very thankful for in this life is having a brother that I can call and say, “Hey, there are two really bright stars aligned in an unusual way in the southwestern sky right now…do you know what planets they are?” and he will immediately grab the scope and go outside and check them out, and then look it up on the computer to be sure, and then call me back to let me know it’s Venus and Jupiter.
It’s a very cool sight to see.
Very nice tonight! For a chance there wasn´t a cloud cover over Bangkok, and even the smog was clearer so I could see a big smiley up there. Not like this : ) But more like:

Not only did I see the smiley face, but it had a Van dyke of clouds.

That was more like a merkin.
It was briefly visible here for a few minutes towards the end of twilight, but then cloud rolled in and obliterated it completely.
