I admit that this show is my guilty pleasure. Wash and I watch it every week without fail. And, whenever one of us realizes we’ve missed something obvious (usually me), we say “where’s the pole?”
I can say, without reservation or equivocation, that this is the funniest show on TV. Mrs. Homie and I were in stitches when they were making fun of the G-rated dad - whenever something painful or humiliating happened to him, the Johns would go into a torrent of invectives that would make “Jinkies” (from Scooby-Doo) sound like filth. My favorite: when he got knocked into the water and John Henson said “Oh, Snickerdoodle!”
Oh, infinitely. At the very extreme least, the challenges on MXC are quick, as opposed to watching some fat-ass drag himself or herself through an edited eight-minute (!) obstacle course. The humour is far more clever and there’s none of that pussified safety gear like life jackets and such.
MXC is to Wipeout as Frasier is to Full House.
*Wipeout *is definitely a guilty pleasure in my house. I think what really sells it is the exaggerated sound effects… although the female host is certainly easy enough on the eyes.
Ninja Warrior is far superior in many regards, though. I especially like the fact that they occasionally have no winner- nobody makes it through the course… and when someone *does *make it through, it’s a huge deal. I just wish they’d show more episodes here in the US.
Occasionally? There’s only been 2 winners ever in Ninja Warrior. And every event they’ve done has now been shown in the US–it only happens twice a year.
Gotta love all the love Ninja Warrior and MXC are getting in a Wipeout thread, but no love for Unbeatable Banzuke and I Survived a Japanese Game Show?
I kinda liked Unbeatable Banzuke, but I found it to be fairly hit-and-miss. Some of the events were really fun to watch (like the bike events, which were simply amazing), but others were kind of boring.
I thought I’d like I Survived a Japanese Game Show, but they really play up the interpersonal conflict. It ends up being just another reality show, and I hate those. Just play the damn game and stop with the backbiting and politics!
