My 11 year old Newfoundland recently survived an episode of bloat. I got him to the vet very quickly and they were able to stop the stomach from completing rotation by intubating him. He’s back home now and seems very weak.
Given his age, and some readings in the blood work, Pooka is not a good candidate for stomach stapling, which would prevent a recurrence (at least of the rotation). I’m wondering if anyone here has recommendations for post-bloat care. I want him to be comfortable, and reduce the chances of this reoccurring when no one is home. I realize that it is likely to happen again at some point.
