and if you do, is it just me or does the sho focus too much on the girls “assets”?
I watch it in a mindless early-morning-cartoon-that’s-better-than-test-pattern way. A pretty harmless Charlie’s Angels clone. Never really noticed any overt sexualisation beyond what happens in say, Pokemon (and let’s get this straight, I think Pokemon is mildly harmless but can be a bit creepy at times).
A bit odd how those high-school kiddies run around in bodysuits, but I guess its part of the Charlie’s Angels vibe.
I have my suspicions that the people behind it put in some naughty references in the episode titled “Passion Patties.” Or maybe I just have a dirty mind.
I’m also of the opinion that the people behind it have some sort of crush on the girls, especially Sam, and will do little things that set off little bells in my mind. Like when they’re crawling along the ice in the winter Olympics episode and we get a nice long shot of Alex and Sam’s butts as they crawl across the ice.
My kids watch it (love it) so I see it sometimes. I guess it would count as EEM if I was in the 12-16 demographic (my kids are in the 6-8 range).
So, what’s your take on Kim Possible, then?
I don’t know if anyone is familiar with the comic book artist Chynna Clugston-Major (she writes and draws Blue Monday and Scooter Girl), but I’ve always thought the animation from Totally Spies looks a lot like her art style. As far as I know, she isn’t involved with the show in any way, though. I’ve never sat down and watched it, but having cute and sexy young female characters is nothing new for anime and “anime-style” shows.
Thats exactly what i’m talking about… that sort of thing happens pretty often… especially to clover for some reason… ie she falls and they make sure her rear is at some angle that emphasisez it and things like that… just glad i dont seem to be the only pne noticing it… as for kim possibe… aside from the cheerleader uniform no middle school around here would allow its not near as bad about it.
My kids watch it. I agree that it’s kind of freaky.
But what really bugs me is that when they cut to the shot of Beverly Hills High School, it looks absolutely nothing like Beverly Hills High School!
Shego. Grrowr.
I don’t watch Totally Spies because it’s a little too blatantly ‘girly’ for my tastes, but I do enjoy Kim Possible. The rather… well-drawn high school girls can be weird at times, most definately.
Let’s see, someone who uses “hentai” as part of his user name is asking if a cartoon focusses too much on the female character’s assets. Now, why am I so unwilling to take that question at face value?
As for whether or not the girls’ assets are correctly focussed on or not … depends on what their audience is.
I call the show ‘Totally Ridiculous’. It is too suggestive and vapid.
A shame that Kim Possible is relegated to direct-to video. It is one of Disney’s best cartoon series.
Moving this from IMHO to Cafe Society.
Well, for an American TV production incorporating a lot of pseudo- and faux- anime stylings, it should be no surprise if there sneaks in here and there a hint of mild “fanservice”; but I think it may be driven even more, as mentioned already, by a “Charlie’s Angels” insporation (and let’s face it, CA’s genre is action-cheesecake). But it’s not abusively so, either.
