Nobody has yet to satisfactorily explain why anyone should be compelled to pay for anyone else’s health care. If I get group health insurance for myself and my family, my premiums are pooled and everyone is paid out of that pool. I’m cool with that - it was a voluntary choice on my part to join that plan.

But why should my taxes be raised to pay from someone else’s health care? I’m not cool with that - it’s not voluntary on my part and I can’t opt out. I have enough trouble paying my own premiums; why the hell should I be forced to pay someone else’s as well?

You should not. The poor should just go away and die quietly. When the poor get sick, they are so annoying.

When I wrote that post, things were much better. I hadn’t had a grand-mal in about a year. I mostly would have small focal seizures every month or so – usually during my period.
“Auras”, (seizure warnings, which can often happen all by themselves) are more common, but while annoying, one can deal.

Well, unfortunately, things changed – my seizures have gotten worse. I’m on a larger dosage of meds (a cocktail, if you will), and unlike before, I can’t even have a morning cup of coffee. Instead of the occassional focal, I’m having monthly grand mals.

May none of your daughters EVER, EVER get sick like this, Crafter_Man. Because I’d hate to see how you’d just brush it off.

Really simply, since if you think no one has explained it your reading comprehension is not hot.

1. You already do. Don’t you want the money you spend to be spent more wisely?

2. You will not, do not, and cannot have the option, in our society, to stand around and watch the poor die. It’s not going to happen under any circumstances at all so, again, don’t you want to contribute ideas on how it should be fixed?

You who are simply whining about not wanting to pay for it are voluntarily cutting yourselves off from contributing ideas. Your side lost decades ago. You’re fighting a war that just makes you powerless and absurd. Your loss, of course, and your choice, but damn, people. Can’t you find it in yourselves to sell your ideas instead of kicking people in the teeth?

Per the rundown of H.R. 3200, the healthcare bill now pending in the House, there is very very little chance that your taxes will be raised. The organization Citizens for Tax Justice put together a breakdown of how many households in each state would pay the surtax on high income that is called for the fund the H.R. 3200 proposals. (That’s not the CfTJ website, but it does show the chart CfTJ created, and there is a link to their full analysis, which is a pdf, from that page.)

The “everyone’s taxes are going to go up” meme is another of the intentionally inaccurate and inflammatory talking points being circulated by the insurance industry and their bought and paid for pet politicians. It doesn’t actually hold true when the numbers are run.

You elected Obama so he could force people like me to pay for stuff for people like you, and it looks like you may get your wish. I guess you don’t care that goverment health insurance will cost many of you your jobs and will slow investment (meaning worse infrastructure and fewer cool gadgets like iPods etc.). No, none of that matters. And I guess inflation and weakening the dollar don’t matter either. And increasing the size of the federal government is only a bad thing when we’re talking about Bush’s justice department reading people’s emails, it’s fine when we’re talking about social programs.

Guess you won’t mind when cigarettes and fast food are made illegal due to the public’s interest in keeping health costs down. Or when the average quality of doctors goes down because doctors have to get other jobs that pay better so they can repay their student loans (and fewer smart students choose to be doctors in the first place). And gutting the market for drugs is no big deal, Obama will just tell the companies to keep researching or else.

Your higher wage has nothing to do with merit on your part fuckstain, it has to do with inequities in pay scales.

It doesn’t matter how you slice it, you are dependent upon other people. Besides, if you were actually a Randian and ran your own business government healthcare would SAVE you money.

Epilepsy doesn’t keep me from working (well, except for some jobs, like say a bus driver, naturally!), so I don’t know where you got THAT idea. It keeps me from being COVERED BY HEALTH INSURANCE.

Why do you care about health insurance? Just get a job. If they have an insurance policy that will cover you, fine. If not, just ask your father to pay for the medication. What’s wrong with that?

Well, I haven’t yet gotten a satisfactory explanation on how and why a completely free-market based system (or one that’s more so than the one we have now) would be significantly better for everyone besides “I wouldn’t be paying for anyone but myself.” In the alternative, I haven’t yet gotten a satisfactory explanation why that in itself is an acceptable answer, and why others, especially the poor, should accept it.

Then again, there’s been so much discussion on Guin that Lightnin’ (I believe it was) asked a poster the same question I asked several posts previous, and never noticed.
