Anything else you motherfuckers need?

Because it’s their fault!

-Joe

And here, ladies and gentlemen, we can see the depth of Rand Rover’s arguments.

I split my time between Chicago and Kansas City, MO. And most of my friends in KC are conservative because it’s a more conservative place - Mike, the bar owner; Joe, the doctor; Berta, the waitress; Bill, the retired ad guy. Bill and I argue politics all the time and have a great time doing so. Mike and I are polar opposites politically, but he is open to discussion, as he’s interested in my take on things. I debate “socialized medicine” with Dr. Joe all the time. I’ve not discussed politics with Berta since, shortly after the election, she expressed her hope that Barack Obama, the President of the United States and the father of two young children, would be assassinated - I considered that completely beyond the pale, but I still attended her husband’s wake yesterday and expressed my sympathy for her loss. I consider all these people good friends and would be happy to have a meal with any or all of them at any time.

Rand Rover, on the other hand, give the impression of being a complete asshole from birth, and his political opinions are an expression of his basic obnoxiousness and lack of worth as a human being rather than being the environment he grew up in.

There are only two possibilities:

A: He’s as big an asshole as he appears to be.
B: He’s a troll.

Both exclude him as an acceptable dinner companion.

Well, here we part company, as RR, for all his faults, has never something as objectionable as that- and notwithstanding my earlier post, you should probably feel slightly ashamed that you can overlook the fact that Ms. Berta called for the death of the sitting President (assuming she said it in all seriousness).

Two mitigating circumstances:

[ul]
[li]Rand Rover is specifically prohibited from wishing death on anyone by Dope rules.[/li][li]Berta’s husband just died from a prolonged illness that was discovered before the election. I doubt I would have excused (not forgiven) anyone else who wasn’t coping with that level of stress.[/li][/ul]

OK, yes, saying “couldn’t have known it was going to happen” is not as clear as saying “couldn’t have known that something could happen”. Better?

Citation, please, that Rand Rover has ever asserted that he is not those things?

Don’t want you wasting your energy knocking down straw men, after all.

OMG u guys r so mean OMG!!!

Which has what to do with what I posted, which is the middle class isn’t saving before they lose a job or have a medical catastrophy?

Uh, well, since I was responding to you asking me “what if you were in the burning house”, I answered it as if it was about me. OTOH, why is it that you feel that the average person wouldn’t have medical and/or house insurance?

If you want to pick that nit, you go right ahead.

As I said, don’t care what you wish to believe. If you experiences don’t include having to eat napkin sandwiches and live in unheated houses on the Canadian border, then maybe you can’t understand what “busy trying to stay alive” means.

Usually at the expense of others. If you have noticed, the reoccuring theme here is to get people back to the idea of taking care of themselves.

Ah, so then working my way up from mail clerk to $35,000 annually was a lack of foresight and ambition?

If you don’t think so, then you need to specify why.

I would totally go see a band called Napkin Sandwiches.

Probably should stay out of the closeup seats - they tend to be messy…

Really? The WSJ is biased, yes, but so is the NYT. Sometimes I want to take the staff of both papers, lock them in a small room, and force them to admit that other people have different political veiws than they do. They can be quite obnoxious, but I wouldn’t call them sociopaths.

I like how tjhe wsj has the one liberal douche opinion columnist who just snarks and smarms up every column he does. I wonder what its like in staff meetings with that guy. Also, that can’t look good on his resume.

Thomas Frank (liberal douche referred to above).

Out of curiosity, have you given any thought to some of the other terms for liberals? I know that you’re fond of “liberal douche,” but it’s grown a bit stale. You could try “socialist.” It’s all the rage this year. There’s always the old standbys: moonbat, leftist, pinko, commie, pansy, or filthy hippie.

I vote for the last one, I find RR’s contempt very reassuring.

I like dirty stinking Commie, but then I’m old skool

Nah, “liberal douche” just leaves me with a nice, fresh feeling that the others don’t.

Please, as mhendo did, distinguish between the reporters and the editorial pages. The reporting of both papers is superb. The editorial writers reflect the opinions of the owners(I presume).

Well played sir.
