That show’s made it’s way to the UK now. It’s on Channel Five late at night. The best part is the fake scenes at the beginning, where Burnell is always walking through a police garage just as all the police come rushing out to their cars.
We get the British “World’s Worst Drivers” shows on American cable televison networks, too. Seems like every episode of those shows has:
- Some guy carrying a donkey or goat in the back seat of his Vauxhall Cavalier.
- A feature about an elderly woman who failed her driving exam 20 times.
- 12 Roma stepping out of a Smart or old Mini, like circus clowns from a VW bug.
- Amorous couples in cars parked along a motorway, in full view of one of the ubiquitous traffic cameras.
- One scene where extreme British English is used; i.e… “Here we have a lorry with a laughing yarmouth under the bonnet, rolling up along the verge on the Kermit. God Save the Queen.”
- White Van Man.
Curious… what does that mean in, say, American English?? I’m guessing the verge is the shoulder. God (and Englishmen) only knows what a Kermit or a yarmouth might be. Isn’t a lorry a truck? and the bonnet is the trunk, or is it the hood? Trucks don’t have trunks… so, help me out here! “God save the Queen” indeed!
American English: “Here we have a truck with it’s engine on fire, rolling onto the shoulder of the highway. God bless America.”

Thank you for your translation, as I, too, was completely bamboozled. That last sentenced had me particularly perplexed, despite having heard it for years. Thanks for the low down! 
Don’t forget the resolution:
“Nigel drove his lorry at eight thousand kilometers per hour through a shopping plaza and killed seventy-four people before plowing his vehicle into the base of Big Ben, creating an explosion that rocketed the clock tower into the air whence it speared down into Piccadilly Circus, killing an additional ninety-one people and spreading flaming debris over a wide area. I mean, WTF? In the US they’d hang the guy by his balls with his head in a badger cage just for giving funny looks to the cops.
I’d go for that, but only if they also include the “they got away” footage.
LOL, unlike the OP, this over melodramatic read by the narrators has always cracked me up. Your take on it above is hilarious, it puts into words exactly what I’ve always thought about this silly show.
Though there are some rather spectacular chases despite the nonsensical narrative.
