someone please explain the usage of this ‘word’?
Why would you use this instead of Any how…?
Is it cutesy or is it a regionalism?
It seems I am hearing it a lot lately and I just don’t get it.
I rather suspect it’s “anyhoo”. I’m pretty sure I heard it first on The Simpsons. If “anyhow” is used to indicate that what you are about to say explains or backs up what you’ve just said, “anyhoo” indicates that you are transparently pretending that that is the case. It’s a marker for acknowledging you are changing the subject without due care and attention; a segueless segue.
It’s bloody irritating, wherever it comes from.
