To an AP Style expert out there:

Do we cap singulars and lowercase plurals in the following per AP style?

  1. The transaction occurred at Register 1 (but at registers 1 and 2).
  2. The elderly patron fell in Aisle 1 (but in aisles 2 and 3).

Yes, I’ve checked the AP Stylebook and have posted this question on their Ask the Editor forum. No reply to it there.
