PA – Paul Anka

Among the Canadian-American’s output are the theme for The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, the music and lyrics for the Tom Jones hit “She’s a Lady”, and the English-language lyrics of the Frank Sinatra standard “My Way”.

PB - peanut butter. During the whole ritual child sex abuse hysteria, Kelly Michaels of Wee Care Preschool was accused of unspeakable things, including having the children lick peanut butter off her genitals. The investigators found a jar of peanut butter in the Wee Care refrigerator, which they felt proved the allegation.

Despite there being no physical evidence of any abuse, Michaels was found guilty and sentenced to prison. The conviction was later overturned, and most every body now agrees the whole thing was a crock of…peanut butter.

PC – Powel Crosley

Although his 1907 attempt to build a car he dubbed the Marathon Six failed, the Cincinnatian had more success with the automobile he named after himself. From 1939 to 1952 (with a World War II break), about 75,000 Crosleys were sold. In 1934, Crosley bought the Cincinnati Reds, whose stadium was subsequently renamed Crosley Field. In 1935, Cincinnati hosted the Philadelphia Phillies in Major League Baseball’s first night game. Crosley was also the first owner to have regularly scheduled radio play-by-play broadcasts of his team’s contests.

PE – Paul Erdős

Because the Hungarian mathematician collaborated on over 1500 papers during his prolific career, he inspired his discipline’s version of “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon”. The Erdős number represents the fewest possible steps required to link Erdős with anyone from Albert Einstein (2) to Danica McKellar (4).

PF - P.F. Chang’s

The upscale Chinese restaurant chain is named after founders Paul Fleming (“P.F.”) and Philip Chiang (whose surname was simplified to “Chang”). The first restaurant in the chain opened in 1993 in Scottsdale, Ariz. It now has over 200 restaurants.

PG – Phyllis George

The native Texan was Miss America 1971, worked on the CBS football pre-game show The NFL Today, and served as First Lady of Kentucky during Governor John Y. Brown’s 1979-83 administration.

PK – Patricia Kotero

Better known as Apollonia, the Prince protégé replaced Denise “Vanity” Matthews as the leader of the group Vanity 6, which was subsequently renamed Apollonia 6 for its appearance in the film Purple Rain. About a year later, Kotero played a character named Apollonia on the CBS drama series Falcon Crest.

PL - Paul Lipson was part of the original cast in the original Broadway production of ***Fiddler on the Roof, ***and remained a member of the cast for the entire run from 1964-1972. During that time, he played several roles, including Avram the bookseller, Lazar Wulf, and Tevye himself, whom he played more than 2,000 times (as both an understudy and as star).

PM – Peter Marshall

The longtime Hollywood Squares host, originally named Ralph Pierre LaCock, is the father of former Major League Baseball player Pete LaCock. Marshall’s sister, Joan, became known under the name Joanne Dru as an actress in such films as All the King’s Men (1949) and the 1952 Dizzy Dean biopic The Pride of St. Louis.

PN – the chemical formula for Phorphorus mononitride, the first compound containing phosphorus identified in the interstellar region.

Peter O’Toole holds a dubious distinction: he has the most Best Actor nominations without ever actually winning the Oscar as Best Actor.

PP – Pat Pending

Driver of the Convert-a-Car, a vehicle which “normally” combined elements of a boat, wagon, and airplane, but could become just about any mode of transportation – or even a basketball – during an episode of the Wacky Races cartoon series. His name is a pun on the phrase “patent pending”, which is often shortened to “pat. pending” on product packaging.

PQ - Province de Québec or Province of Quebec, the francophone province of Canada.

PR - Puerto Rico. El Yunque in Puerto Rico is the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. Parks System.

PS – Pontiac Safari

Originally based on the Chevrolet Nomad, the Safari was introduced as Pontiac’s station wagon model for 1955. The last year for Safari as a wagon model was officially 1989, but the designation was used as late as 1991 for the Pontiac 6000 LE Safari. The name was then applied to minivans until 2005, five years before the Pontiac nameplate was discontinued.
