LEMme put him on the ruler!
OMG, what have I done?
Come on man. Be a good joe or you’ll be branded as a dick around here.
But seriously folks, the OP would probably like this movie if he dug Paranormal Activity. It seems to be that kind of horror movie set-up, and space/the moon is a clever location because of the isolation, the dependence on things outside your control, and the fact that it’s spooky looking. If you’re like me, though – a space nut who has no interest in horror movies, you’re probably better off watching your Apollo 13 DVD an 18th time.

Well, it opens friday, and apparently no critics have reviewed it. I consider that a bad sign. The concept intrigues me, however I’d have been happier with a period “alternate history” type of story rather than a gov’t conspiracy cover up with “found” footage.
I’ll wait and see if folks seem to like the film or not, I’m expecting a ton of suck.
“Alternate history” Cheesesteak?
It could be a very short film. Apollo 11 lands, aliens jump out at them, Aldrin punches them.
Movie over.
if you have time to see any see Captain America 1st, Cowboys and Aliens 2nd and skip Green Lantern altogether…
perhaps Apollo 17 was the prequel to Aliens?
I wonder if there’s a scene where a protagonist walks alone through darkened corridors? Or receives advice from a Mysterious Stranger?
Meh. Forgive me, I’m a bit goofy today - the statue got me high.
I saw this movie yesterday with my daughter.
It had such potential, but then I’m a fan of the whole ‘found footage’ genre, as it were. I enjoyed it right up until the big resolve. The trouble with the big resolve is that there isn’t one. There’s barely a small resolve.
I was waiting for the Cloverfield-moment when we’d see what the fuck was actually going on, but we never really do.
Also, we missed the first few minutes of the movie, so I have no idea how they explained a secret moon mission, or how they found the found footage.
They never address exactly how NASA recovered the footage. The cover story for the Saturn 5 launch was that it was carry a classified (& unmanned) satelite.
Both the Soviet lander and Freedom are destroyed. Granted some of the footage was being transmited back to NASA, but alot of it was on film cameras that Anderson considered it of vital importance to get the film back to Earth. And what was the point of the mission? :dubious: The DoD clearly new to expect something very, very bad and was obviously coordinating with the Soviets from the start. Otherwise how could they have landed so close to the Soviet lander, why were the Soviets still monitoring the coms from a failed mission, and how were they able to get in touch with the Deputy DefSec so quickly?
Also why did the astronauts think there was another cosmonaut after seeing inside the lander? Did they not notice there was only 1 chair? Was it ever intended for Anderson & Walker to return alive? The DoD could’ve been trying to return a sample of the alien to Earth, but the closing lines suggest that many of the “moon rocks” brought back were really aliens which have now escaped. If it was just to set up motion capture cameras wouldn’t it have been easier to send an unmanned probe/lander? If all we wanted to do was observe how they react to humans we could’ve saved alot of money and just locked a couple convicts or homeless people in a sealed room with them and watched.
Great concept, but the execution kinda fell apart; especially at the end.
I haven’t even seen Apollo 1 yet… have to catch up first.
If you want to see a very good movie about odd goings-on on the Moon, I recommend this: Moon (disambiguation) - Wikipedia
Yeah, I saw Apollo 13 without any context and was just confused the whole time.
My wife, daughter, and I saw this yesterday. It was good popcorn fun with a rather large plot hole (or, I guess, setting up for a sequel). Laura actually screamed at one point, as did another person in the audience.
It seems that the website, www.lunartruth.com, that contained the 53 hours of footage isn’t real (in the sense that ABC TV set up some fake sites for Lost fans like www.ajiraairways.com ). It seems like a rather large oversight/mistake on the part of the producers, especially since they mention the website both before and after the movie. Given the films rather tepid box office this weekend, it’s unlikely that I’m being blocked by hoards of fans.
