Telegram or Signal should work well – group chats and such. Some people don’t trust Telegram because it was developed in Russia. I use both depending on the friend group. I prefer Telegram because they have a browser interface, which Signal doesn’t have.
Neither one allows you to have a structure like WhatsApp, as far as I know. For example, I have a WhatsApp with a club that I’m part of, and under that are sub-threads for different groups. I haven’t seen Telegram or Signal do that. Pumble can do that, but it’s not as easy for just simple personal chats.
No Trump page in my feed as of yet. Only WH.gov’s because I have been following the official WH/POTUS pages in the different Metas, was sort of expected in my last job.
More like, the official White House Facebook page IS to be ONLY the current administration’s page, and the past administration is migrated to an “Archival” page (possibly “owned” by the National Archivist?). Which IMO is better in the sense that it does not allow the new WH team to just erase or maliciously rewrite everything the other guys wrote.
Facebook algorithm knows more about you than Santa Claus.
Even if you have never used Facebook. Your info and possible interests become apparent and are collected.
You may not be a Trump fan, but if some of your Facebook freinds are following the Trump news. FB will start feeding you Trump stuff, even if it is not you who is intertersted or following.
Because they might find a way to sell you stuff. It is all about the possibility of selling you stuff.
Need to work ‘cuck’ into that slogan and then it would be perfect. Maybe Elon will sleep with his wife like he did Sergey Brin’s.
The Facebook algorithm knows more about you than your mother, and if they can’t sell something to you, they’ll sell you to someone else. Either you are a mark or a hostage, and likely both.
I’m concerned because I’m hearing that hashtags like #Democrats, Bernie Sanders, and John Oliver are being blocked. I never go to FB anymore myself - I should probably close my account - and have never been on TT (too old to be interested), so I don’t know if this is panic or a misunderstanding or what.
There’s not going to be many places to communicate with like-minded individuals if the oligarchs are going to censor all the big ones.
Another friend reports involuntary following without the ability to unfollow (but they blocked). These are health professionals with high security settings on their accounts, and not people who would have inadvertently followed someone (the activity history notice they posted has yesterday’s date).
Oh, no, not only that: It’s also about selling you to somebody else. You, or your children, spouse, pets, grandmother… whatever makes faecesbook or the Zuck money or just gives him the possibility of a chance of making money.
But having bitched about social media for years I undersand how Cassandra must have felt. “Yeah, they are bad, but I only use it for good reasons / for the family / to share pets pictures”. [checks category] There are no insults bad enough. Fuck. Them. All. Zucks and Musks and Tiks and Toks and Bezosses and Instabrats and Twitters and all the assholes out there. It’s too late anyway now.
I haven’t been forced into following Trump on Facebook (yet), but I did find a post from Mark Zuckerberg on my feed last night – a picture of him with his wife at the inaugural ball. It felt pretty good to select “Hide all posts from Mark.”
The only power remaining for the non-insane (at least for the next two years) is economic. I can’t understand why anyone would use Musk/Zuckerberg/Bezos products.
