Apple to make electric car with Kia

I’m sure the Apple cult members will order one on day 1

The Kiapple will gain a huge cult following, despite costing substantially more than other electric cars. Buyers will then discover that each model is supported for only two years, and that each new model is bigger than the previous year’s.

I was going to remark on the snarky “cult members” comment, but then I remembered how people used to line up to get a new iPhone on the first day of release. I like Apple products, but I haven’t seen one yet that I couldn’t wait a week or two to get.

Anyway, the more options for EV the better. Godspeed ApppleKia.

and if you get cancer you get free juices to treat it like Steve Jobs. What’s he up to lately?

Linux fans are pretty much a cult too but they can buy their hardware from many sources

This makes more sense than for Apple to try making a car on its own, which is what I thought was going to happen. And I saw a new survey of existing EV owners that said they rated the Kia Niro high among existing electric cars.

Oh, look!
Another anti-Apple thread by Bijou_Drains.
Wish this pony could learn a new trick.

bought my son and GF iphones. Bought my son ipad. GF uses macbook. I guess Apple wishes they had more negative people like me.

So Apple will be funding the development of a new car. Will it have any design input into the car at all? The article doesn’t really say, as best I could tell.

Will I have to take it to the Apple store for maintenance? Because that’s a deal breaker.

You think Apple’s not going to want to provide input? Of course they’ll provide input. I expect it will only support Apple technology and not Google for smartphone integration.

Who knows? Perhaps they’ll offer wireless induction charging.

That wouldn’t be a smart business move, but who knows. Now that you’ve mentioned it, though, I’m bothered by the notion that it might require a smart phone to be used, which is a disturbing thought. I definitely don’t want the auto industry to go in that direction, because smartphones are Satan’s suppositories.

I was going to make the “first car with zero user maintainability” and “hood welded glued shut” jokes, but I realized they practically tell themselves without my help.

My car predates smartphone integration (by only a year or two) but I thought some makes support Google integration but not Apple or vice versa. So if an Apple/Kia car only supported Apple technology that wouldn’t be any different.

Well, it would be a “feature”. If the car has Apple integration but not Google integration, that’ll depress purchasing by Google phone users. Is Apple okay with that? Probably. Is Kia okay with that (as the cost of getting Apple’s money)? Probably. So maybe brace yourself.

Myself, I’m bracing myself for “If you don’t have the most recent Apple phone (as determined by ‘updates’ that kill our older phones), then your damn car won’t start.” Hopefully it’ll be a couple years before that comes to pass, though.

You know, it’s weird to threadshit your own thread. If you just want to whine about apple and its fans, start a thread in the pit, not in MPSIMS.

Nonetheless, please don’t insult other posters outside the pit.

Let’s stick to the apple/kia car in this thread, please.

@puzzlegal May I suggest locking the thread so a new one can be started which doesn’t include the digression in the OP? Can’t see how anyone opening the thread for the first time will be enticed to engage in a discussion on the topic considering that and the first few responses.

Since no one has replied, sure, let’s say this thread is done. Feel free to start a new one.
