The fall season brings on the huge variety of apples and pears grown in the PNW. Today we had a grilled cheese sandwich made with gruyere cheese and thinly sliced honeycrisp apple on whole grain.
Sounds very nice. I’ll have to remember the apple or pear on grilled cheese.
I’m very much a fan of homemade sour dough, with american cheese.
Tonight is spaghetti with hot Italian sausage in red sauce. And some take 'n bake bread.
I’ve had several Honeycrisps already, and enjoyed them thoroughly.
I’m looking forward to the first Comice pears of the season, my favorite pear. They’re fat, juicy, and have a creamy texture. I like them with a couple of nuggets of Roquefort cheese.
I think I may have dated her.
I too hail from the PNW. On our last visit to Little Norway I picked up a block of gjetost, which is excellent with the aforesaid apples and pears. And crackers. And straight.
I think she was my sister, she made a mean grilled cheese sammich!
Comice pears. Absolutely the best.
I never thought of a grilled cheese sandwich with apples, but that does sound good! Honey crisp are my new go-to apples, too.
Tonight we had slices of french bread with a slice of brie and a slice of pear on top. Put the brie on the bread, stick it in a hot oven or toaster oven until the cheese starts to melt. Put a slice of pear on top. Heaven.
My favorite pear is Forelle, a smallish pear very nice for eating, but with a short season I guess. Not well known but worth searching for. They’re also very pretty. You can see a picture here.
We live by an apple orchard. I make applesauce frequently, blending different types of apples and adding a few pears to most batches.
Adding super-thin slices of pear to a grilled cheese sandwich was mindblowing the first time I tried it. Highly recommended!
My mom just made up a big batch of jalapeno-pear jelly, from windfall pears from a neighbor’s tree. With windfalls, you end up having to cut out a lot of bad spots, but what’s left is still just fine for preserves.
I don’t mind the flavor of pears, but the gritty texture is completely off-putting to me. A good apple, on the other hand, is one of the joys of fall.
Wait, this thread isn’t about stairs? Now you’re in Barney Rubble.
The cafeteria at work has a sandwich like that every so often. I’m standing outside the cafeteria waiting for them to open on those days. So good.
