I’d just like the Internet to finally realize that when every single site attempts an April Fools’ “prank” no one is fooled and it isn’t really all that funny. When it wasn’t mandatory every year there were a few good ones, but now it’s just boring. Consider this year’s Slashdot nonsense as a good example.
A couple years ago, Johns Hopkins said they were taking off the “s” from “Johns”. Even had a bunch of photoshopped pictures of them removing it from signs and stuff. I know that was the guy’s real name…but “Johns” always bothered me. I wish that was real
I was a bit disappointed when I realized that Google’s matchmaking site was just an April Fool’s gag. Because really, they were right: Dating is a search problem.
A few years back, I remember reading that some people video taped a Powerball drawing. Then bought those same numbers for their friend. They invited him over and they played the video tape of the drawing of the previous night as if it was live. Their friend was a millionaire! For a short time. When he was interviewed later, he said “it wasn’t funny at the time”. Can you imagine that? One moment you are a millionaire, and the next moment…nada.
