'Araña gigante de la casa'. I like it.

Chatting with my coworker, I mentioned the Giant House Spider I found in my toothbrush glass this morning. For whatever reason, I started thinking about the name. ‘Giant’. That’s ‘gigante’ in Spanish, right? I wonder how to say ‘spider’? So I babelfished it:

Araña gigante de la casa

Giant House Spider. Or even better, ‘Giant spider of the house’.

‘Hello, is the giant spider of the house at home?’

Araña gigante de la casa. Rolls off the tongue, it does. One day I should learn Spanish. Or at least start a band. I have a name for it.

Reminds me of a popular song in Guatemala in the 70s: La Aranita de Martita. It apparently has a sexual connotation.

Spiders are “hairy”.
