Arcade Games

In addition to many of the above mentioned games, I enjoyed:

Elevator Action
Arkanoid 2: Revenge of Doh (and I beat it several times!)
Do Run Run (Mr. Do! sequel, only found it in one arcade at Circus Circus)
Tac Scan
Targ
Tempest

Hmmmmm, I know that I played more games…just can’t remember them.

I didn’t, and don’t, like sports sims.

I have R-Types for the PSX, and it’s incredibly good, and I’ve already played it often enough that I’d have recouped my purchase price, if I were still going to arcades. I’m not terribly fond of shootemups any longer, but R-Type I is very, VERY good, and the info section on the PSX is great, too.

I’m 42, BTW.

BOOT HILL!! Of course! I remember that at one bowling alley our dad took us to, if we hit the game with just the right amount of force in just the right spot, we’d get a free game!

I didn’t have Shark, Shark, unfortunately. Don’t even remember what it was about.

Vaguely recall Night Driver. I wasn’t into auto racing games so much, then. I enjoy beating my 14-18 year old (girl) cousins at auto racing games now, though (heh).

Lynn–I’m 34. So why is it that the games I remember are older than the ones you do??

I’m sure Max appreciates your dedication!

Half a block west of Broad on the south side of Chestnut. (Right across from the old SamEric Theater)

Glad to see a lot of Mr. Do fans. There’s a bar here in the twin cities that has that game, and actually played a few games last night. I used to like Dig Dug more than Do when I was a youth, but I have a new found respect for that clown now.

I also enjoyed Mr. Do’s Castle.

I remembered some other fun li’l games last night:

Kangaroo
Q*bert
Popeye
Wizards of Wor

And no one’s mentioned Phoenix yet? Sheesh…

You’re just LOOKING to get smacked when I meet you, ain’t you?

< Old man voice > I remember when Space Invaders came out…We had real games back then. You could play for days on one quater if you were good. Not like these new punk games that make you spend 5.00 in thirty minutes time.

Spy hunter
Galaga
Gorf
Joust
Elevator Action (sounds like a good porn title)
Tempest
Dig Dug
Popeye
Star Wars
Battlezone
Commando
Tailgunner(?)

Missle Command (Esp. the Atari console version)

That karate game…the one you controlled with two joysticks. The first of the Street Fighter-style games.

Final Fight (love this one!)
Double Dragon
Gain Ground
Gauntlet

Bartender(?) This was the game with four horizontal bars. You’d slide beer to thirsty patrons before they got to the end of the bar and kicked your ass. A clean version (You served root beer) was introduced soon after for the family arcades.

Not a game, not a number to call for games.

Just a number for a local comedy club. I hit the submit button before deleting the number.

That’s what I get for trying to multi-task. :frowning:

Tapper. And the “family” version was Root Beer Tapper. Tapper had Budweiser ads all over it, don’t know if RBT had any corporate sponsorship.

That’d be Tapper. I used to be really, really good at it. The one glass per bar level was never any trouble, but when it got up to 4 at a time it started getting frantic, but I’d do it, oh, yes, I’d do it…

OK…video game nostalgia…can you get geekier?

I lived in Japan and had a Japanese Nintendo about three or four years before they came out over here. Also, I was able to play most of the video games several years before they were here.

My favorite (and still is) is Flicky.
Stun Runner was also quite cool.

Pole Position sounds more like porn than Elevator Action.

I liked the eye candy laserdisk games (Dragon’s Lair and Space Ace) to watch but they really sucked to actually play.

Tron and the Deadly Disks of Tron were also pretty fun.

I love ROMS.

Oh, and WindJammer. That was a frisbee game that was quite fun on the Neo-Geo system.

Karate Champ. I liked it, but it wasn’t as fast paced as Yie Ar Kung Fu. I still haven’t beaten “Blues” in that game.

Wow, I never saw Flicky in the arcades. I did have it for the Sega Genesis, though, and I got very good at it. I think that I got one or two backgrounds past the starscape background. One of the best $20 I ever spent…

Karate Champ was one of my favorites. I got all the way to the last level where the opponent moved so fast, you had no chance of winning.

Another fav of mine was Turbo. That driving game where you were looking down at your car… definately not 3d, but very cool.

On my ColecoVision game console, my fav was Venture. I scored over 5 Million pts in about 3 hrs without losing a life on that game.

Oh yes, another Flicky fan. I love that game too. I found it used for 10 bucks. I didn’t even know it was out on Sega. It was in the arcade around 84 (I think that was the year I was in Japan). I never saw it here though. I was so sad when I came back and wasn’t able to play it. I have beaten that game three times in a row. Each time you scroll back to the beginning screen things start moving faster and more cats/iguanas appear. I can beat the first level in 8 seconds but have not been able to do that consistently.

Whoa. Obviously, I wasn’t as good at it as you were. I never got it to cycle back to the beginning. The 8 second beating on the Genesis was a repeatable pattern and really easy. You just ran to the right IIRC, picking up chicks as you went. You got to the door with every chick in tow. Maximum points for minimum time. Too sweet.

BTW, during the Flicky Wars of '90, one of my friends claimed to have gotten to the highest level of all: Iggy’s Fornication Palace. He was always good for a laugh

He lies. There isn’t a Fornicator Palace. That game was way to innocent which is why it was fun. I have it on a rom here at work. It isn’t quite the same as it is at home though. I think I will dig out my genesis tonight and get my boyfriend hooked on that game since I got my sisters hooked on it already.
